Trademark Guidelines
by inode0
Please take a few minutes to review the trademark guidelines. These
apply to everyone although there are some special considerations given
to ambassadors when they are representing the Fedora Project in
various capacities.
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Legal:Trademark_guidelines
In particular I'd like to draw your attention to the section on
promotional events where ambassadors are not required to obtain prior
permission to use the Fedora trademarks described here
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Legal:Trademark_guidelines?rd=Legal/Tradem...
Note that the sort of event that falls into this category is limited
as described in the guidelines. This is not meant to discourage
ambassadors from participating in any other sort of event but in order
to use the Fedora trademarks in conjunction with other events please
do request permission before doing so.
Thanks,
John

Revised Report
by A. Mani
Here is the more detailed report:
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Events/CFD-India%272013#Event_Report
Report on Poster Competition on Womens and LGBT Issues
This will be one competition that provoked plenty of debate on
methodology and scope of targeted awareness programs. The idea was
definitely supported by large sections of the FOSS and many other
communities, but some had strong reservations.
We did not have too many submissions though, the number of submissions
were less than the available prizes. So all eligible submissions were
awarded prizes. These were all submitted by the 13th. The extension of
dates, modified 'positive' text and publicity did not help in getting
any new submissions
The prizes included Live Fedora design and TexLive'2013 in the Flash
drives and the winners are
C. Srividya
Ani Dalal
The submitted posters are available on the site gallery under CCSA
license. The posters were made with GIMP and Inkscape mainly. Ani
Dalal's was done in GIMP only with custom brushes. There were
differences in the technical quality of submissions as can be seen
from the exhibits. Participants were asked to describe the intended
representation of the posters. The ideas chosen were simple and
direct.
Ani Dalal's poster uses a clever interplay of an image of two people
holding hands with a large amount of anti-discrimination related words
layered optimally over it. It is intended to suggest "freedom and
courage, and dawn of a new world, a better world for all, irrespective
of their gender or any other form of discrimination."
Srividya's first poster carried the message that LGBT people are
humans and that humans should be respected irrespective of their
gender or sexual orientation.
Srividya's second poster is intended as a simple call for a change in
the culture associated with free software through the involvement of
women in all stages of its existence. Many women have achieved much in
the free software world, why don't more women get involved?
The publicity of the event went into various new Google+ community,
sociopolitical discussion groups, reddit and social channels (apart
from FOSS channels). This by itself must have helped in increasing
awareness about FOSS tools. There is a difference between a person who
asserts "I know Fedora and GIMP" and one who asserts "I have not heard
of free software". We had many positive comments all through in these
channels.
Some of the ways in which the impact of events like these can be improved are:
We should have conducted online courses on the free software tools
before the competition.
The language of the target community should be accommodated in a
better way. Unfortunately differences within the organizing committee
led to fairly placid approach. The earlier version of the background
text could potentially help people with repressed sexualities (that
arguably constitute a overwhelming majority) as well.
For events like these it is important to work on addressing closeted
people and groups in hostile environment. As it is the disparate real
communities or persons in the abstract LGBT community are extremely
alienated from Indian society and even if people want to participate,
they may not be bold enough to do so.
All things considered, this stands as a good community effort!

Subject: FUEL GILT Conference 2013 - Call for Papers
To: "fuel-discuss(a)lists.fedorahosted.org" <
fuel-discuss(a)lists.fedorahosted.org>
Hi All,
First of all I would like to thank the entire FUEL Project community for
their greater contributions to the success of the initiative we started
five years ago. With the help of community volunteers and organizations we
have achieved remarkable milestones through our journey till date.
Building the language standards in the open source and making it freely
available in the open domain is one of our motto behind starting FUEL
Project. Our objective is to establish a common and universal platform to
support continued development and adherence of GILT standards by building
the consensus for it's development, establishment and promotion with the
help of community and organizations working towards the aim of
democratization of content and wider awareness and acceptance of these
standards.
The FUEL GILT Conference 2013 is being organized by Red Hat and C-DAC GIST.
In this conference we are gathering industry localization experts,
linguists, internationalization engineers, testing professionals working
towards language technologies.
Participants would get a chance to network all the localization experts
working in the industry as well as able to grab more opportunities
available in this domain. There would be learning for the beginner
localizers as well.
Keeping these objectives in mind we have identified following tracks for
the papers:
1. Globalization, Language and Translations (Something that showcase
the importance of language, culture, it's role in the modern life, etc.)
2. Standards: Linguistic resource (work towards Terminology, Glossary,
Dictionary, Style Guide, Unicode, CLDR, FUEL Modules, Script Grammar, etc
would lead into this category of development.)
3. Tools & Technologies (An effort in the direction of development of
translation management systems, Rendering Systems, Quality Assessment
tools, Fonts, Input Methods, etc. would lead into this category.)
4. Localization in FOSS (The volunteer localization efforts in the FOSS
world, how they contribute, what they contribute, etc would fall in this
track.)
5. Open Track (Anything related to GILT and relevant matter could also
be considered provided we get a space to allocate you a slot.)
For more details about the conference, its venue, registration and paper
submission please visit here:
http://fuelproject.org/gilt2013/index
Please feel free to write to us if you need any information regarding the
conference.
Thanks!
