Fedora Live Station Reloaded or Fedora Live Station .Next
by Zoltan Hoppar
Hi,
I'm writing this mail because I would like to ask an advice. Many
times I read on our main mailing-list channels that many of our Fedora
users are restricted with bandwidth, and accessing media. It was
always mostly a pain in the neck to distribute media or enough
installer for events for many countries (India, Africa, and so on).
But If I would like to resurrect / do it otherwise the Fedora Live
Station - what is originally made available for anyone to create live
sticks - what kind of small hw or barebone or ARM device would like to
use for it to create an locally usable (probably no network) micro
install server?
The target would be that who are not able to access through network
our distribution - at install parties would be able to request such
possibly credit card sized Fedora Live Station what is possibly loaded
with Fedora 21 server, cobbler, and it's webui, LiveUSB installer,
every current images, maybe a reduced package repo and so on..... that
possibly at the end - if we put out this box at events or send over to
suffering countries to install events makes ease the pain?
My question would be also that:
1. How big SD/SSD is would be required to contain most of the ISO's
and/or local repo on this tiny server?
2. Cobbler can support our Live USB media creator?
3. Cobbler with webUI can be our .next generation Live station if we
can simplify the UI to buttons only level?
4. Is it possible to create viral installing - I mean if you create an
another installation - you can trigger an another with it and so on?
5. How small cheap can be this server, if the size weight is important
because of sending over countries?
Thanks,
Zoltan Hoppar

Yes, you are right, Kushal.
So I suggest all APAC community members should try your best to join
tomorrow meeting. We need to do voting for a proposal in two to propose
to FAmSCo and FPL.
You should also follow this discussion before the meeting:

Any ideas and questions are welcome.
Kind regards,
Tuan

We need show both proposals to FAmSCo and FPL with our suggestions.
If we can not make a decision during this meeting, we will need to do it
other ways (other meetings, a Trac ticket, etc.)

I also have got a training course this weekend so it is hard to me to
attend the meeting.
It is really appreciated if someone can chair the meeting. I will try
my best to join into, but I am not sure that I could be in full time.
As I remember, we are planning to make decision for FUDCon APAC 2015
location (suggested by regional community). However, it has not been
discussed much on fudcon-planning mailing list since the last meeting
so I would like to suggest us to delay the decision to next week (we
will organize another irregular meeting just for FUDCon)

I think this is a really nice idea. However, there may be some technical
issues which stop us to do it earlier (need to be checked?)
There are three products now. Can we put Workstation and Spins together?
how about Server, and even Cloud product?
The best case is we can mix them all in a media.

Tuan

Currently, Server supports to install from DVD (both network and offline):

Multiboot DVDs for F22 and beyond
by Siddhesh Poyarekar
Hi,
We had multiboot DVDs earlier[1] and I know that we had burned and
distributed multiboot DVDs in the past in India. They are a great
idea for purely economical purposes because it allows us to utilize
all of the space in a single layer DVD. The other advantage of doing
this is that it allows us to distribute spins in the same DVD, which
is great for India since we have a fairly large KDE user (and
contributor?) community here and definitely a fair number of XFCE
users (/me raises hand!). Finally, the clincher for cost is that
burning 4000 images of the same type is significantly cheaper than
burning 1000 images of 4 types.
The only problem I see in all this is that it probably breaks the
notion of separate products for some people, but it won't be the first
time that multiple products were burned into the same media. The
other limitation is coming up with standard artwork for such a DVD
that matches the artwork of the rest of the media. I don't know how
difficult that would be to do for F22 for example and will need help
from someone who does. I can work on getting the image ready and
hopefully an SOP for future releases, which seems to be missing in the
wiki page.
Of course, there have been opinions that DVDs are passe and we should
either distribute USB keys or some mechanism which gives users a URL
to pull images from. That is not a valid opinion for India IMO (and I
am sure, a lot of developing countries) where high speed broadband is
still not common. Of course, a multiboot image can be burned on a USB
stick too, which again gives us more value for money on the USB keys.
Thoughts?
