Fwd: Fedorahosted.org sunset: 2017-02-28
by Zamir Sun
FYI, take action if you have projects in fedorahosted.org
---------- Forwarded message ----------
From: Kevin Fenzi <kevin(a)scrye.com>
Date: Thu, Sep 8, 2016 at 12:44 AM
Subject: Fedorahosted.org sunset: 2017-02-28
To: announce(a)lists.fedoraproject.org,
fedorahosted-announce(a)lists.fedorahosted.org
Greetings.
Fedora Infrastructure currently maintains two sites for general open
source code hosting: fedorahosted.org and pagure.io.
Fedorahosted.org was established in late 2007 using Trac for issues and
wiki pages, Fedora Account System groups for access control and source
uploads, and offering a variety of Source Control Management tools
(git, svn, hg, bzr). With the rise of new workflows and source
repositories fedorahosted.org has ceased to grow, adding just one new
project this year and a handful the year before.
Pagure.io was established in 2015, and is a modern Flask/Python based
application. It is under rapid development and supports git repos for
source code, docs, and tickets. The pull request model is used for
changes along with many options for projects. Access control is
standalone. New projects are self service and added all the time.
Given the lack of growth and continued maintenance burden, Fedora
Infrastructure would like to retire fedorahosted.org and encourage all
its active projects to move to pagure.io (or whatever other place they
feel best meets their needs). We have tenatively scheduled this
retirement for February 28th, 2017.
The Infrastructure team has already contacted owners of the top ten
projects on Fedora Hosted for input on their needs. If your project
has special needs, please contact the Infrastructure team (details
below) to discuss options.
After the sunset date, we will continue to provide raw data from public
projects previously hosted at fedorahosted.org, but the service itself
will be closed. We hope to provide this data for download for a few
years, but won't provide it forever.
A quick FAQ:
Question: pagure.io has some issues/problems that prevent me from
moving my project there. What can I do?
Answer: Please file these issues against pagure:
https://pagure.io/pagure/issues/ and we will try and address them as
best we can. Note that not every feature request can be accommodated
but the team will consider all requests.
Question: How can I migrate my data from fedorahosted to pagure.io?
Answer: You can use the https://pagure.io/pagure-importer tool to
migrate trac data to pagure.io issues. Git repositories should be
easily migrated with a push to the new pagure.io repo. Releases can be
uploaded to pagure.io.
Question: I want to test things out, but not migrate yet, how can I do
that?
Answer: We have a https://stg.pagure.io/ test instance you are welcome
to create projects on and test importing data. Note that from time to
time we clear out this instance, so do not use it for any long term
use.
Question: What happens if I ignore this/don't get around to migrating
my project by the 2017-02-28 deadline?
Answer: We hope to provide the raw data from projects for download for
a while, so you should be able to download a tar.xz of your old git
repo and trac files, but it will be up to you to extract what you need
from them, and we won't host them forever. The data sunset period would
be at least several additional months.
Question: Does pagure.io support hg, bzr, svn or cvs?
Answer: no.
Question: I have more questions, where can I get more answers?
Answer: Feel free to ask on the infrastructure(a)lists.fedoraproject.org
list or #fedora-admin on IRC
Thanks,
kevin

LinuxCon Europe in Berlin
by Jiri Eischmann
Hi,
I'm organizing a Fedora booth at LinuxCon Europe that is held in Berlin
on Oct 4-6. I managed to get a booth for free and I'm looking for 2
more volunteers to staff the booth with me. Anyone interested?
If there are more candidates, I prefer local ambassadors and those who
have more experience because LinuxCon Europe is attended by IT
professionals and it requires certain knowledge and overview to promote
Fedora there.

Want to be Fedora contributor? Start with Fedora 25 translation sprint!
by Jona Azizaj
We often meet many Fedora users that say, “How can I contribute something to Fedora?” or “How do I become part of Fedora?” This is the right time to reach all those users and inform them they can be contributors!
Why now? For translations, users already know their local language. Its just a matter of using translation tools like Zanata to get those translations in. This is also one good way to learn about processes in the Fedora community. It’s a fantastic chance to learn about packages, reviews, IRC, Bugzilla, mailing lists, etc.
We’re having a Fedora Activity Day, or FAD, to finish translations prior to the next Beta release. We will be gathering online from 3th September to 9th September. We have a list of priority projects to translate and many languages to cover. In later stages, one can also help rewarding contributors and effectively closing the events with statistics and reports.
Learn how you can give back to Fedora by helping translate Fedora to other languages [1].
Cheers,
Jona

FUDCON APAC Call for Papers
by S.Kemter
FUDCON APAC Call for Papers
FUDCon is the Fedora Users and Developers Conference, a major free software
event held in various regions around the world, usually annually per region.
FUDCon is a combination of sessions, talks, workshops, and hackfests in
which project participants can work on specific initiatives.
FUDCon is always free to attend for anyone. For 2016 the FUDCon for the
APAC region will be in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. It will be held at Norton
University (NU) Phnom Penh from 04. to 06. November 2016. The event happens
synchronized with the BarCamp Phnom Penh/ASEAN, the biggest technology
oriented event in Cambodia and one of the biggest in the region. With 4.000
registered visitors.
We looking for...
FUDCon APAC 2016 now searches for contributions in form of talks,
hackfests, workshops and hands-on.
This years edition will be more user oriented therefor we looking for
articles which describe what you can do with free software and Fedora in
particular and hands-on how to begin/start particular things in or with
Fedora and/or Free Software. We welcoming contributions who help users to
migrate to Free Software, make their first steps in a particular
programming language or using and contributing to Fedora. We also looking
for contributions, who show exciting developments in the Free Software and
Fedora world. Addional there will be one day with slots for things which
could be improved in Fedora or in Fedora APAC in particular.
As FUDCon is co-located with other events and has an exhibition area,
Fedora should be also part of this. We would like to have not just an
static booth and would like if speakers also submit short presentations,
that can be hold in the exhibition area.
Submission and Registration
You can submit your ideas for talks, workshops and hackfests to the
following form [0].
As FUDCon is always free to attend for anyone, you can register with this
formular [1], an important note the budget for travel sponsoring is limited
and we cant sponsor everybody, so there will be an selection process. For
the people who submit papers, please use also the registration formular, as
it gives us different information as the formular for the submissions.
Deadlines
The deadline for submissions will be the 25. of September 2016 , speakers
will be informed until 5. of October 2016.
