Hi all,
I think its increasingly difficult for me to contribute to Fedora recently,
with very unpredictable $dayjob that increasingly non-Fedora/non-RH
related, and other things. Additionally, seems like i just noticed Paypal
Malaysia no longer allows non-Malaysian credit card to be attached to
Malaysian account (which is all my accounts registered as) when trying to
process a reimbursement today after my absence last year.
With this development, I think it'll be best for me to step back and let
another person with more time hold this role.
Will still occasionally be around to give talks in events or maybe submit
patches on things related to what I'm working on nowadays.
Regards.

Hi all,
I discussed with several persons during FOSDEM this year about the
possibility to have a Fedora event around FOSDEM week-end, at Brussels
of course. Probably one day event.
Why?
In fact, many projects organized some events the Friday or Monday:
FreeBSD, CentOS, Buildroot, etc.
FOSDEM is very important in Europe (even in the world) and a lot of
contributors come from everywhere to assist or to present conferences
and workshops. It is one of the most important moment to meet each other
or to work on some subjects.
So, we can use this opportunity to organize something around Fedora with
less efforts (because a lot of people already organized their coming,
their talks, etc.). And maybe some other people should be interested in
coming at Brussels to follow FOSDEM + Fedora event (and not FOSDEM
only). In addition to this, we are often too busy during FOSDEM to spend
time for Fedora only and see everyone.
What?
From my point of view, this event could have some workshops:
translation, documentation, QA, marketing or development. To find some
issues, discuss how to improve some processes or tools and working
together to improve the content or the product. I guess talks should be
done during Flock and FOSDEM.
Maybe you have another point of view about this.
When?
CentOS Dojo (https://wiki.centos.org/Events/Dojo/) took place Friday.
Sharing the same date and the location could be nice to simplify the
organization and reduce the cost of the event. But CentOS community have
to accept this solution of course.
How?
I don't know how the Fedora Project handled the organization of FOSDEM
(I didn't have the time this year to help, sorry).
But, I'm living in Belgium now, no so far from Brussels. Next year I
will help. I guess we can organize FOSDEM + this kind of event with one
team.
Next step?
Before doing that, we need to discuss about it. Sharing ideas, having
feedback, etc. Maybe it is a bad idea and it will be forgotten.
If enough people are interested in organizing this event, we will plan it.
Do not hesitate to send your feedback about it, thank you.
Regards,
Charles-Antoine Couret - Renault
DISCLAIMER: This email should have had arrived earlier but I became a Fedora Ambassador only recently so I could post it just now.
Hello everyone,
My name is Anxhelo, I'm a Fedora Ambassador for Albania, and also a member at Open Labs Hackerspace, the first hackerspace in Albania. We have a local Fedora community already established with 5 Fedora Ambassadors and many events during the past years. Every year members from the hackerspace organize OSCAL (Open Source Conference Albania), our biggest annual conference.
OSCAL (Open Source Conference Albania) is the first annual conference in Albania organized to promote software freedom, open source software, free culture and open knowledge. The Conference will gather free libre open source technology users, developers, academics, governmental agencies and people who share the idea that software should be free and open for the local community and governments to develop and customize to its needs; that knowledge is a communal property and free and open to everyone.
You can find more info on the official website: https://osc.al
This is the 5th consecutive year the conference is being organized. Fedora has been present in the conference since the first year that we had several ambassadors to represent the project. OSCAL has been one of the main factors that has helped in the involvement of new contributors in the Fedora community. Many students learn about Fedora first at OSCAL and have become regular contributors to the project, including myself.
Every year, Fedora has sponsored various Ambassadors to give talks/hold workshops about various topics at the conference. We believe that OSCAL is a good opportunity to attract newcomers and increase the number of contributors in the project (and Fedora users in Albania). We would like to do the same as every year. Any thoughts about this or is anyone interested to join OSCAL 2018 this year? We have opened our CFP (https://osc.al/cfp) and the deadline is March 15.
Thank you very much.
Best,
Anxhelo
