Hello everyone, I think im going to write a lot lol. Ok an Ubuntu marketing agent told me about their idea of having Ubuntu in Libraries. https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuInLibraries No, its not about installing Ubuntu in the computers but to lend Open source cds to their subscribed users. Actually they copied it from Openoffice. http://www.openoffice.org/nonav/issues/showattachment.cgi/11838/Open%20Sourc...
Personally its a wonderful idea because having CDS in libraries will affect the complete newbies mind set of fear towards linux. Considering the fact that librairies is a body of trust.
This is mostly an activity done by the lug. Of course if we ambassadors provide enough materials/translation to.
Im eager to do it right away in Strasbourg. But comparing to another distros like ubuntu, suse, etc they already have enough materials in their pocket. Example, live cds. I prefer to wait for Fedora to catch up with materials.
Let's take for example, Fedora. If a lug happens to realise this project. Among other distros we will only have handouts and Fedora DVDs. Meanwhile students or anyone will prefer to give a try to live cds, leaving Fedora behind. Saying that this particular live distro is based on Fedora isn't enough for the complete newbies. It would rather be useless. If someone tried the "official" fedora LIVE cd if he/she likes it he/she can easily get the install DVD for free for their local lug or lug ambassador or from the library directly.
Some testimonials: http://ask.slashdot.org/askslashdot/04/04/16/1923248.shtml?tid=137&tid=1... http://slashdot.org/articles/03/12/15/193231.shtml?tid=146&tid=149&t...
Since in the last 3 meetings (see http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Ambassadors/Schedule ) we didn't really progress in Emails, funds, Schwag because we are waiting for additional info. I suggest we talk and plan about this idea. I know ambassadors from India or Brazil will have alot to say :))
I know we (majority)ambassadors we only popped in during meetings hours, talk and talk. This sounds like acting. Its time to move A55 :) for REAL action.

@Chitlesh: We can also try te get some Fedora-related books* in the libraries. I'm living in a small town with a very small library, but I think it is possible to request books at bigger libraries.
If I didn't have a book about Linux when I began with it, I probably wouldn't have survived my first Linux-experience :-)
And what does a 'Project Leader' have to do?

Hi,
My suggestion is that, it will be more beneficial if we provide these material in Univerisitie's Libraries, where students can take these cds and after use/installation they will return back, also i would like to make a point here that there should be an Ambassador country wise who lead all the other Ambassador from that country, that will help us to assess any Ambassador demand and activities in that country.
thanks

True. And they can also make a copy :)
also i would like to make a point here that there should be an Ambassador country wise who lead all the other Ambassador from that country, that will help us to assess any Ambassador demand and activities in that country.
If I didn't have a book about Linux when I began with it, I probably wouldn't have survived my first Linux-experience :-)
True again. The idea of having the install cds and live cds will attract more audience than giving them books to read. Its more exciting to get started right away intuitively :)
And what does a 'Project Leader' have to do?
answering Thijs and Nayyar suggestion, the "Project Leaders" is meaningly. I prefer Nayyar suggestion saying that each ambassador will be the "FedoraLibraries" Leader in their respective country.
Last time, during the meeting we could not talk much about it. Rather I was too stupid during the meeting. This is mostly a topic to talk about in the list rather than during meetings. Here I am again.
Ok We have some new ambassadors around, so there's a link about the FedoraLibrary idea: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Marketing/FedoraLibraries https://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-marketing-list/2006-January/msg00027....
Now Ill call for Brainstorming :) Bring your ideas. What do we need? Who will start where? Are there any restrictions with some kind of law?
Ok, here I am again with FedoraLibraries http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Marketing/FedoraLibraries I have updated it some days ago.
Following a discussion on #fedora-mktg, mether, cds, puneet_batura and I, Im starting the discussion again.
Product: Fedora Core 5 Target: Libraires
My wish, for the moment, is that we need to establish a procedure to state what needs to be done by any ambassador to be able to launch this project in his/her local librairies.
Ex: contact the director of the library schedule a meeting give the ambassador appropriate tools for the meeting (what to say) Get an ISSN number. have a generic DVD case template build/apprend a wiki page to list the name of the libraries which supporting our project etc. do add more
If we have this done, any ambassador or newcomer will have this material at his disposal for marketing.
FedoraLibrairies is also another way to support Thomas Chung's project "Free Media" since anyone will have the ability to copy the dvd.
At my university, I myself am providing LiveCD for my mates. I just started a wikipage about his in French to http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/ChitleshGoorah/FedoraLiveCDs. (Most of the French dont like to read any article if its not in French) ThomasCarnnot, you are welcome to improve it :)
If we got enought material, Ill write something in FedoraNews (which Im saying to ThomasChung since 2 weeks) to get it more support, even from Fedora Users.
pop your suggestions :)

Hi Chitlesh,
Interesting approach and great initiative!
That's exactly what we gotta do: offer the appropriate materials and infrastructure for Ambassadors perform their "spread-the-word" activities worldwide.
A couple of comments inline...

more than a procedure, i'd call it a project...
Ex: contact the director of the library
i'd include preparing a proposal here - outlining the scope, goals, operation, resources, benefits and maybe a rough timeline of the project
pls contact me offline if you need a hand to create some sort of template
schedule a meeting give the ambassador appropriate tools for the meeting (what to say) Get an ISSN number. have a generic DVD case template build/apprend a wiki page to list the name of the libraries which supporting our project etc. do add more

true! the referred template can be "localized" into different markets
