Inside my latest RHEL 3.0 Update 1 CD, I notice there is a folder in
there calls Update (/RedHat/Updates). I am making a customize ISO image
for my company, and what we have done in the past (with RedHat 9.0), we
create a separate Update folder that contain the latest Update during
the time, copy the folder to the drive during post installation. After
it rebooted, it ran a script I wrote and update the RPM that away. From
what I am seeing here, the Updates folder/location from RHEL 3.0 Update
1, it seem to do this during the installation phrase. Since my iso
image only installs 254 packages, and most of the RPMS inside the update
folders do not apply to me, my questions are as follow
1. Will it break something if I didn't RPMS in the Updates folder
that I didn't install
2. Can I add additional RPMS into the Update Folder and it will
automatically update additional RPM I have install? Or do I need to
edit some additional files?

comps.xml needs a DTD
It also needs some documentation of the exact meanings of some of the
keywords such as basearchonly and biarch, etc.
Where does this exist?
http://fedora.redhat.com/projects/anaconda-installer/comps.html is
nothing but the original RHL8 and 9 document... and badly needs updating
The lack of documentation really needs some work :-(

get any spec file.so can anny one tell me how to build
a new package with custom kernel.
Also one more thing when i install my distribution &

One side note, on my RHEL 3.0 update 1 CD, I notices there is an Update
folder inside my Redhat Directory. Do the anaconda installer
automatically do an RPM -Uvh on all the contents inside that folder
after its initial installation? If so, I could use this as my
repository for update.

I am trying to make a custom installation cd with redhat rhel 3.0 so
that I only need to use a single CD for my OS installation. I have
create a ks.cfg file that install on ly 254 packages. I have create a
directory under /var call /var/LZ3. In its, I copy the entire first CD
from redhat to its. Afterward, I just copy the needed RPM from
CD2,3,and 4 into the installation point. So when everything is say and
done, the dir inside /var/LZ3 looks exactly like the original 1st
installation CD from redhat except it has more packages inside the
RedHat\RPMS directory.

RedHat
Afterward, I CD to /var/LZ3/RedHat/base and use the genhdlist command to
update my hdlist file
/usr/lib/anaconda-runtime/genhdlist --withnumbers --hdlist hdlist
/var/LZ3
and then I CD back to /var/LZ3 and use mkisofs to make the iso images
mkisofs -r -T -J -V "Secure Linux" -b images/bootdisk.img -c
isolinux/boot.cat -o /var/lz3.iso /var/LZ3/
I have done this with previous redhat release without issue. However,
when I try it this time with rhel 3.0 installation, the newly created CD
boot fine, but when anaconda start to kicks in, I get the following
messages

I'm still stuck with this problem. What is the next step? Do I have
to start dis-assembling the initrd from the FC1 iso image and debug
the ext3.o loading?
It does seem that the problem is that FC1 install cannot read ext3
file systems (or at least not find root if it is on ext3). Would that not
be
a rather serious bug that needs to be fixed? Is the only way around this
to become an anaconda expert and burn a modified FC1 iso image...?

I think you are on the right path Richard. I just modify my script to the following to see if any value is being assign to the variables
%pre
#!/bin/sh
#
# Gets list of drives with size of each drive
#
set $(list-harddrives)
let numd=$#/2
echo $numd > /tmp/output1
# Setup to accommodate up to 2 drives
d1=$1
d2=$3
echo $numd > /tmp/output2
echo $numd > /tmp/output3
And I notices few odd behavior. 1st, the name of all the output file has a '?' append to it (i.e /tmp/output1?) 2nd, there is no value assign to numd, the output was blank! Any idea? When I ran the command manually during anaconda install (from console 2), it works

Other than the typo, I don't see anything:
# Disk partitioning information
%include /tmp/partinf
You should at least get one of the if statements to execute which would populate /tmp/partinfo with something. Maybe you have some errors in your if statement?
The if statement might break if $numd is blank. Try enclosing in "" to fix.
If still no luck after fixing the type and using double quotes, then try simplifying the if statement until it works.
