I want to translate the Installer of Red Hat so, that I could make my own distribution, in URDU language. Please tell me how and where to get the installer source code, so that I could translate the po files and compile the installer to see the results. getMethodUri

I've changed UrlInstallMethod to return a list in the case where we are doing loopback iso mounts on urls. I was wondering if it would make sense to make all getMethodUri calls to return lists? Currently we have getPackagePaths which is documented with: # modifies the uri from installmethod.getMethodUri() to take into # account any installclass specific things including multiple base # repositories. takes a string, returns a list of strings But it doesn't seem to return a list, we call items() on the resulting dict instead. We probably want one way of storing this in anaconda, maybe name : [ ], so we don't have to do checking for ListType in yuminstall.py. Paul

Access to floppy during install

initram disk image and installation of Fedora Core

Hello I was searching for where is the initrd*.img file which is written to /boot during installation of Fedora Core 5 and which is the initram image used in bootstrap. I had searceh the 5 *.iso CDs of FC5 : I found 3 files which could be regarded as candidates but it seems to me that they are not the ones. theses files are : in the first FC5 installation iso: /isolinux/initrd.img /images/xen/initrd.img and /images/pxeboot/initrd.img So it seems to me that none of these is the one which is being written to /boot during installation of FC5 . So my question is : does the installer of FC5 run mkinitrd during the installation ? And if this is so, this does mean that on different installation options we will have differnet initrd.img files under /boot ? Or more specifically, the question which very much interests me is: Suppose I will configure FC5 to work with LVM (during manual partition) and suppose on a second installation I will ***NOT*** work with LVM: will the initrd.img under /boot in both installations be the same ? or even more specifically: Will the mkinitrd in the second case (no LVM) will be activated witn the --omit-lvm-modules option ? Creating updates.img

Hello, I trying to test some changes to Anaconda using a floppy disk. I tried putting the updated python files on the floppy but that didn't seem to work. I believe that I need to create and updates.img file instead. The problem, however, is that I don't know how to create this file. FC6t3: buildinstall error

Hi all, I'm trying a customized of FC6-test3 within a installed FC6-test3 with all update from devel repo. When I do buildinstall I see errors: ------------------------------------------- ... Creating nsswitch.conf Creating libuser.conf Fixing up /etc/man.config to point into /mnt/sysimage Running mkfontdir... Creating SELinux policy... libsepol.policydb_read: policydb module version 6 does not match my version range 4-5 libsepol.sepol_module_package_read: invalid module in module package (at section 0) libsemanage.semanage_load_module: Error while reading from module file /etc/selinux/targeted/modules/tmp/base.pp. /usr/sbin/semodule: Failed! .... ----------------------------------------------- The CD is bootable but Anaconda crashed by giving the message: /usr/sbin/load_policy: Can't load policy, no such file or directory ... Do Boot Options Persist?

Hello, I have a question that relates to boot options and Anaconda. If I were specify boot options to the installer kernel, do these boot options persist after the install? That is, will Anaconda take the boot options I specified for installation and apply these options to grub for subsequent use by the system kernel? Anaconda - Kadischi LiveCD installer

I am working with some prototype installer Anaconda/Kadischi discs.. but to make that happen, Anaconda has been modified just a tiny bit. I have a patch here that deals with a make dev/root node that if it recieves an OSError it will pass instead of fail, which is required inside the LiveCD environment. I'm not absolutely sure this is the right way to handle this scenario however. Any thoughts? I also have a patch that makes Anaconda not fail, when trying to invoke syslogd when it is already running in teh LiveCD environment, and isn't in the same path as Anaconda would be looking for in a normal case scenario. Please look at the patches, and see if we can do something proper here to allow Anaconda to be spawned from a working LiveCD system. If anything, the patches at least provide a standpoint from my situation to explain where problems are occuring in spawning Anaconda on a running, Live system. Maybe the devs know a better solution than what is delivered in teh patches. These problems rectified brings it one step closer to having a LiveCD to system installer, which would be awesome. Hi,there, I found there was an item "Fill all space up to(MB)" in the "Add Partition" dialog.I did not know what was the difference between that and "Fixed size" item. I got the growParts function in the anaconda code and found that difficult to understand in a short time. Please give me some explained and analysis. Thank you very much.

Hi. Would anyone be able to point me in the right direction for debugging an issue while: 1) Running Anaconda as invoked by Kadischi under a LiveCD environment The exceptions I recieve are along the lines of: OSError No such file or directory '/file/name/here' When the files (RPM headers) do actually exist in grabber.py _do_grab function. Is anyone aware of bizzarre failures with this module? I have an exception anaconda dump file if anyone would like to see it. J. Hartline

RFI: How to debug a particular problem with grub-install

Hi, I have a particular problem, only verified with RHEL4AS U4, where Anaconda happily installs and reboots but there does not seem a bootloader installed (or it is installed at the wrong location). This happens on a HP Proliant DL580 G2 with the cciss driver. If I install the bootloader with grub-install myself (using a rescue cd and mount/chroot) then the grub device.map lists /dev/cciss/c0d0 as hd4 and sda as hd0. Not sure if that is the problem, but manually overwriting the device.map and making /dev/cciss/c0d0 hd0 works as expected. Now, instead of asking if this is indeed the problem, I was wondering how someone would go and debug this. Is there some way to know exactly what anaconda has been doing at the end of the installation, without modifying anaconda, without even rebooting and kickstarting again ? I would expect something like a complete 'set -x' and command output of *everything* it did. Or an strace like output. Something that can match behaviour with expectation. Or something you can grep for things, during or after the installation without loosing time or iterating over things. The ultimate goal is to provide sufficient information (and maybe even a patch) to put in a bugzilla report, which I do not have right now. Custom distro - adding slides, splash

Hello, I am working on a custom anaconda installation and was wondering how (with the new codebase) if it is still possible to add slides and also the first 'splash' screen that always appeared before installation. (Using %pre etc...) I've been making similar suggestions on the kickstart list. So much dialogue on both lists revolves around how to get information about what is going on, correctly or incorrectly. A 'debug mode' framework would not only improve the ability to quickly troubleshoot, it could also be used to provide a recovery capacity that is sorely lacking now. The user experience is of something primitive and broken (like a long phone answering menu that abruptly disconnects you in the end) when an install aborts after investing much time in it. I've done many hundreds of RedHat installs over the last 5 years or so, but it took 4 tries, from scratch, to get FC5-x86_64 installed on a new home computer recently. Many folks strive for minimal %post scripts, preferring to do their post-install configuration 'post-post-install', because it is can be so hard to develop, and maintain, %post (and %pre) scripts. If it were possible to enable 'breakpoints' during anaconda's install phase, possibly on error conditions, with a chance to interact, such as attempt to query state, or manually run failed commands or work around them otherwise, and then continue, it could save an enormous amount of time iterating through install attempts. And why should it be impossible to return to the end of the info gathering phase, with 'back' button opportunity from there, on errors during the install phase (for non-kickstart installs)? Could anaconda provide a 'debugProblem' function that could be called from any interpreter during %post (and perhaps %pre) scripts for kickstart installs, that could display a passed string argument, and provide a shell prompt for debugging and recovery, that on exiting, returned control to %post to be able to continue? How else could anaconda be made more friendly, and flexible? -Ed

Anaconda boot loader problem.

I am having trouble installing an updated Fedora Core 5 that I built using the anaconda-runtime buildinstall script. It is a straight Fedora Core 5 distribution, with the updates applied. Everything goes great up until it gets to the boot loader. anaconda crash

hi everyone: i am customing the anaconda-10.2.1.5(FC4) but when i install, anaconda crash at the step of turnOnFilesystems (savePartitions()): Traceback (most recent call list) File "/usr/lib/anaconda/gui.py" line 1137... ... File "/usr/lib/anaconda/packages.py" line 579, in turnOnFilesystems diskset.savePartitions () File "/usr/lib/anaconda/partedUtils.py" line 726, in savePartitions disk.commit error: Error: Error informing the kernel about modifications to partition /dev/hda5 - Device or resource busy. This means that Linux won't know about any changes made to /dev/hda5 until you reboot... i know this's a bug of FC4 anaconda, and partly caused by "fd leak" i think there is open fd of "/dev/hd*", and didn't close. details in: (http://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=164360) or (http://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=160693) because i have had some works at this version of anaconda(FC4), the only way to me is fix bug, but until now, i still can not find the bugs resources, and i cannot find any patch for this bug too. thanks for anyone giving me any direction or informations

Anaconda - Kadischi install to disk from LiveCD

Hello. I have a prototype Kadischi here that can be invoked from LiveCD made with Kadischi and also acts as a installer to disk from LiveCD. The problems I am having relate to packages.py, yuminstall.py and grabber.py in the Python package under yum and urlgrabber site-packages. I keep getting exceptions stating "Cannot open header" or "Cannot open package header" for instance on a Fedora Core 5 machine lines 159 and 161 when in fact /tmp/cache/headers/*.hdr exists for the transaction set chosen. I notice in the real installer boot.iso for FC6T2 we actually get headers populating a directory: /tmp/anaconda-base-200608030842.i386 I'm curious if anyone has any idea on how to resolve the issue with not opening package headers, and or where this directory is created. Even symlinking anaconda-base-2006080308432.i386 to /tmp/cache where the headers really are, doesn't work. Like Anaconda deletes the symlink in /tmp or something. Any ideas where I can look to rectify this issue? A Live CD installer using Anaconda would be excellent in my opinion, I almost have it working. J. Hartline
