The ethernet is *on* the smsc9514 chip, as a USB device. Disable
the hub, no ethernet.
Uh, I think you understood my intention wrong. Obviously, the smsc9514
should provide usb0 as ethernet device as the smsc95xx module is a
network driver.
I was interested to find out if this USB-device is conflicting with
the storage. Therefore you might be able to disable smsc95xx and see
if your storage performs much better. When the storage is still not
performing as it should, there is likely an issue with the
USB-controller or the (assuming internal) USB-hub and not necessarily
with the smsc95xx.
Maybe it is clearer this way?
