My boot partition is VFAT. For some reason the factory u-boot on the
Dreamplug does not support EXT; I've always assumed that this was
because the Sheevaplug u-boot had problems with EXT (it couldn't load a
file if any part of it was more the 2Gb from the start of the
partition).

The '3.7.6-201.fc18.armv5tel.kirkwood' boots ok for me on a GuruPlug Server
Plus. I'm using 'U-Boot 2010.12-03502-g0390ab0 (Oct 24 2011 - 14:53:00)'

Is anyone else having an issue?

It works fine on the guruplug plus. Upgrade your firmware.
