Is there a way to access NVMe in Fedora?
Fascinating, this stuff. I read this as meaning that the technical causes / problems have now been clarified, "only" the technically correct implementation in the drivers is now missing. Do you have any idea how long we might have to wait? Half a year, a year, or longer?
So someone kindly had some time and capabilities to finally dig into this, we'll be supporting it in rawhide/F-35 as of next week's kernel build.
Generally though if it's an upstream problem we can't necessarily give a time line for fixing these sorts of things as they often need access to the hardware and possibly even HW manuals which aren't always available or need tight NDAs so the general rule of thumb is "when someone with the time, skill and appropriate access has the time".
And if it is, is there a way to flash the SPI with fedora so I can boot from NVMe? There seems to be some provision for this, but I can't figure out the details.
Does it have SPI flash? Looking at the specs [1] there's no mention of it, and in the photos on that page some have the SPI populated, others have it missing.
I happen to have got a model A revision 1.4 It has the SPI chip already soldered. It is a XT25F32BW01G on my board. Do you know if the eMMC chip works so that I can boot Fedora from it? From what I found in the general documentation, it should work. It doesn't seem to depend on SPI, but both are queried via ROM. But after so many nasty surprises so far …
The eMMC has worked on these devices for some time, no idea what's that got to do with SPI though, they are completely independent. Maybe you can clarify what you mean here.
