Re: [fedora-astronomy] Looking for scisoft src.rpms
by Joseph Wang
Thanks for the information.
For some of the packages, getting the build scripts may be useful.
Also, I've made a lot of progress with getting src.rpm for ESO scisoft for
mageia, and sergio has been converting them to Fedora. Do you think that
what we are doing will help scisoft with its releases? If you can think of
anything we should/shouldn't do doing, let us know.

Re: [fedora-astronomy] astronomy Digest, Vol 35, Issue 4
by Joseph Wang
Let me know when you have kapteyn packaged.
I took a look at GILDAS and the problem is that it doesn't have a
clean open source license. It can be put in a non-free section,
but I'd rather prioritize working on "clean" open source packages
first.
I'll send out an e-mail to GILDAS for clarification. I've also sent
out some e-mails to the ESO maintainers to see if they have
src.rpm's available.
One other thing is that if anyone here has any ideas to make
fedora<->mageia (and opensuse) spec files interchangability
easier, let me know.

Looking for scisoft src.rpms
by Joseph Wang
Hello,
I'm working on a project to add astronomy software to the Fedora and
Mageia distributions
and I'd like to add all of the contents of ESO scisoft to be
distributed by those distributions.
Do you know where src.rpms for the scisoft are available?
Thanks

RPM packaging for astronomy software
by Joseph Wang
Hello,
I caught your post on www.astrobetter.com about STSCI data.
I'm currently involved in a project to package astronomy related RPM's
for RPM linux
distributions like Mageia and Fedora.
https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Science_SIG
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Category:Astronomy_SIG
The goal is that by making astronomy packages part of the main distributions we
will have less of a problem keeping things updated. By having things
as part of a
larger project rather than a standalone distribution, it becomes
possible to do things
like shared build infrastructure.
One thing that I could use is some guidance as to which packages are
most important
to get incorporated. We've already generated packages for IRAF and
DS9, but in looking
at the large list of ESO scisoft packages, it's not clear which RPM's
should be packaged
next.
If you could give us some guidance as to which packages would be of
highest priority, that
would be very helpful. My background is theory so I don't have a good
sense of which
observational packages are more important or less important.
In addition, if you could provide links to the SIG wiki pages, that
would be very useful.
Both Mageia and fedora rely on volunteer efforts so that if we can get
more packagers
with astronomy backgrounds, this would be useful.

SRPMS for SCISOFT packages
by Joseph Wang
Hi there,
I'm currently involved in a project to package astronomy related
software for RPM based
distributions (namely Mageia and Fedora). I'd like to package the ESO
Scisoft package
so that it is available through the standard Mageia and Fedora
distribution channels.
I'm wondering if the src.rpm's used to generate the scisoft RPM's are
available anywhere.
All I need are the spec files and I can do the work to update everything else.
