the badge record
* Raising priority due to upcoming Outreachy cycle
= Discussion =
As noted in the comment above, OPW is now Outreachy. The next Outreachy
cycle is getting started soon and it would be a good idea to have this
badge ready to award to new participants.
decause should also be granted permissions to award this badge as Fedora's
Community Lead.

Marking ticket as triaged.
Any new updates on this badge? Seems like the concept is mostly complete,
pending a few minor revisions as noted by riecatnor above. If jenneh is
able to finish it, that's great! If not, we can leave it open for someone
else to complete.

Badge description (like "You added a co-maintainer to a package. BFF!"):
Similar to the "Speak Up!" badge (https://badges.fedoraproject.org/badge
/speak-up!), this badge would be awarded to a user who has linked their
FAS account with their IRC nick, and they speak for the first time in a
#fedora-related channel.
I think this badge would be important to help encourage new users to move
away from lurking and more towards interacting with others on IRC - this
might help encourage them to say hello or help another user out if they're
idling in one of the official channels.
I know the possibility of this badge depends if something like this is in
place already, but is it something that would be trackable with our
current infrastructure? Hopefully it would be - I would think this would
be a great "starter" badge for new users / contributors!
Badge Name Ideas:
- Hello There!
- Is this thing on?
Badge Description: "You spoke for the first time in a Fedora IRC channel!
Welcome to the club!"
Help the badges team understand what this idea is all about. If this
badge is awarded for certain kinds of activities:
1) What are those activities?
- Participating in discussion on IRC
2) Who is doing them (are they packagers? translators? newcomers?
veterans? users? sponsors?)
- Newcomers
3) Why are they doing them (is this a means to a different end?)
- Becoming more involved with the Fedora community
4) When do they do them (every day? once a year?)
- Ideally, when they first join the channel… ;) But it would likely be
early in a Fedoran's involvement.
5) How do they do them (by talking in IRC? by running commands in the
console? by using a web interface?)
- Talking in IRC
Lastly, do you have any ideas for artwork concepts?
Depends on if either of the two badge names I suggested are chosen:
"Hello There": Could be a group of pandas with one panda in the center
raising its hand, perhaps also more in focus than the others
"Is this thing on?": Similar to the IRC Support SIG badge, it could be
designed from the user-standpoint of that badge. It could be a panda
talking / tapping a microphone or holding a phone to its ear.

Comment (by fale):
What's the statud of this? It seems to me that the first 4 badges are
already in production and in the last 19 months no one moved beyond the
first one. Does it make sense to have 7 badges now or is it better to
consider this ticket completed for now and eventually open a new one when
other badges are needed?

=== Badge at a Glance ===
* '''Badge Name''': BrickHack 2016 Open Source Winner
* '''Badge Description''': Congrats! You were were a category winner in
the Open Source category of BrickHack 2016.
=== When is it awarded? ===
Awarded at the end of BrickHack 2016 to winners in the Open Source
category that Fedora is sponsoring.
=== Who awards it? ===
It will be a manually awarded event badge. Both decause and I should have
privileges to award the badge.
=== How is it earned? ===
At BrickHack 2016, Fedora is sponsoring the Open Source category. As the
sponsor of the category, we decide the rules and regulations for the
category to determine how people can earn prizes and how to succeed in the
category. Winners will be determined by a formula of sorts based on
contribution to open source software. Winners will be participants that
place at the top and earn a badge.
=== Why have this badge? ===
It is a useful tool gauge participation and determine long-term interest
in Fedora.
=== What does it look like? ===
The proposed image is attached to this ticket. I borrowed the design from
the Top 10 badge earners badge.

the background / border.

Badge for "Fedora 24 Change Accepted"
by Jan Kurik
Hi,
we have reached one of the first milestones for Changes on F24 and I
would like to reward people who were working on Changes. However the
ticket https://fedorahosted.org/fedora-badges/ticket/417 requesting
the F24 badge is on hold for a while. Is there anything I need to do
to move this on and receive the badge and be able to reward people
with it ?
Thanks for an answer and Best Regards,
Jan
