initrd.img

In the old days I used to be able to modify the initrd.img file on my CentOS
5 install CD to add drivers, rescue mode utilities etc.

I come to do that on CentOS 6 and find it is now in an unrecognisable
format:

# file initrd.img
initrd.img: data
# lsinitrd initrd.img
initrd.img:
============================================================

gzip: initrd.img: not in gzip format
============================================================

gzip: initrd.img: not in gzip format
cpio: premature end of archive
============================================================


I can fiddle with the /boot/initramfs files on the installed system, but how
do you do it now on the install/rescue CD?

Hi Jos,
There is another utility which is now used in place of the old 
'initrd'.
Try reading the manual pages on dracut(8) and dracut.conf (5).  Best of
luck.

Thanks.  Is that a bug in file(1) then, if it doesn't recognise xz archives?
But where's the SELinux stuff?  In rescue mode I have a load of SELinux
modules loaded, but I can't find any of them in initrd.  Dracut(8) and
dracut.conf(5) do not mention SELinux modules.
