A classroom session on VIM

Hello,

I intend to hold a classroom session on VIM on Tuesday, December 12 at
2000 UTC. Please mark your calendars. :)

To convert it into local time, you can run the following command in your
terminal:

>  date -d '2011-12-12 2000 UTC' 
The session will be at #fedora-classroom on Freenode. 

It will concentrate on teaching people how to use VIM correctly, not the
way most people do -> in insert mode ;). It's a beginners' session, so
we'll start from scratch. We'll try to keep in within an hour. 

** Prerequisits: please install vim, vim-X11, vim-outliner

>  su -c 'yum install vim vim-X11 vim-outliner'

I am glad to see efforts to do classroom sessions.

Given the 24 time zones we have on the planet, perhaps I can suggest that
sessions like these be repeated once to handle timezones.  My suggestion
would be for the principal presenter to present his/her stuff during
that person's
waking hours and schedule another to handle those whose waking hours are
oppositie.

I think it is wonderful that people step up and run classrooms, and as
recipients of these sharing, we should be appreciative of the effort and
let the presenter do it in their time zones.

his classroom lecture is a smashing foundation indeed.  ;)

I really look forward to these classrooms and sending more Fedora positive energy to the

I was wondering if we could do something to enable folks to follow up
with their queries after the sessions we hold. Is the classroom list fit
for this, or do we need to set another channel? 

The classroom sessions are generally quick, they don't quite give people
the chance to clarify all their doubts, which is why I'm bringing this
up. 

Suggestions?

Are you referring to IRC chat? If so,
There are lot of clients available but it is very easy to use a web
based IRC chat client.

The above would be a good choice and enter the channel name as #fedora-classroom

If you want to install VIM on fedora you can use below command at the terminal.

yum install vim-X11 vim-common vim-enhanced vim-minimal

Yes. That's what it does mean ;)

I do realize this timing is not fit for  most of APAC, therefore I shall
repeat the session sometime, as Harish suggested, to suit APAC.

If I make it suit us, it doesn't suit Europe or the Americas. In case
you can't make it, there will be a session transcript you can follow,
