glusterfs and hekafs release number for f16 and rawhide; systemd switch-over

Up to now the glusterfs and hekafs versions and releases have been the same for f16 and rawhide, i.e.: glusterfs-3.2.4-1.x86_64.fc16.rpm, glusterfs-3.2.4-1.x86_64.fc17.rpm, hekafs-0.7-16.x86_64.fc16.rpm, and hekafs-0.7-16.x86_64.fc17.rpm. I did that because the source, thus far, is exactly the same for both f16 and rawhide. In f16 and rawhide both glusterfs and hekafs used sysv init.d scripts. Now for rawhide I'm going to switch to systemd. I know I can't switch to systemd for f16, so the question is, what scheme should I used for the release numbering? One thought I had was to 'leapfrog' increment the release numbers. I already have: glusterfs-3.2.4-1.x86_64.fc16.rpm and glusterfs-3.2.4-1.x86_64.fc17.rpm. Then for the systemd version then I'd go to glusterfs-3.2.4-2.x86_64.fc17.rpm. And if I need to respin glusterfs I'd use glusterfs-3.2.4-3.x86_64.fc16.rpm and glusterfs-3.2.4-4.x86_64.fc17.rpm. I.e: f16 rawhide current 3.2.4-1.fc16 [i] 3.2.4-1.fc17 [i] new... 3.2.4-2.fc17 [s] 3.2.4-3.fc16 [i] 3.2.4-4.fc17 [s] ([i] means init.d, [s] means systemd) Alternatively I could just add a character to the first release using sytsemd for rawhide, e.g. 's'. Then I'd have the existing glusterfs-3.2.4-1.x86_64.fc16.rpm and glusterfs-3.2.4-1.x86_64.fc17.rpm, and glusterfs-3.2.4-1s.x86_64.fc17.rpm for the new systemd version. And for a respin then I'd just use systemd going forward for rawhide, and I'd use glusterfs-3.2.4-2.x86_64.fc16.rpm and glusterfs-3.2.4-2.x86_64.fc17.rpm. I.e: f16 rawhide current 3.2.4-1.fc16 [i] 3.2.4-1.fc17 [i] new... 3.2.4-1s.fc17 [s] 3.2.4-2.fc16 [i] 3.2.4-2.fc17 [s] Whichever I go with I'd do the same thing for hekafs. Thoughts?

Missing man pages in Fedora 16 AMI after installing man-db

The Fedora-14 EC2 AMI

Hi Cloud List, I got the EC2 Fedora AMI info from the following page, https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Cloud_SIG/EC2_Images And I tried the Fedora-14-64bit AMI, ami-487c021a http://aws.amazon.com/amis/9831751792251868?_encoding=UTF8&queryArg=searchQ… However, I failed to ssh to the instance with key. I got the following error messages, Permission denied (publickey,gssapi-keyex,gssapi-with-mic). But I use the same key pair to other instance, which is created by other AMI. I can ssh login the instance successfully. Are there any problems of the AMI fedora-14-64bit? Or anything I missed? Any suggestions will be much thankful and appreciated! :) Regards & Thanks! Binbin

Checking in on OpenStack plans for Cloud Test Day

Hi Folks, We have the Cloud Test Day coming up on 10/20. I know we have a "how to test" page - is someone going to be making a specific list of test and accompanying matrices, and possibly fleshing out wiki test cases, for the test day? I'd like to have all of the test day stuff consolidated by Monday evening, Tuesday at the latest, into one wiki page. EC2 re-imbursement for the cloud test day?

Cloud infrastructure package group

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=731712 The HekaFS maintainers were looking for a appropriate group for their package. I was thinking that perhaps having a 'cloud infrastructure' or 'cloud support' group might be the best place, but we don't have one of those, and I'm not sure what all packages should be in it. Would someone fom the Cloud SIG like to take a stab at it? Thanks, Bill

Fwd: A small (685K) Fedora appliance for the test day

It's just under 700K download, but will only work for users who already have Fedora 15, 16 or Rawhide installed on the host. I suggested to Mark and Alan that we give them this. If it doesn't work, then they can download a full appliance image that Alan is building instead. I have tested these images on stock Fedora 15 (32 bit), F16 (64 bit) and Rawhide (64 bit). For Fedora 15, use this: http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/taskinfo?taskID=3421870 For Fedora 16, use this: http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/taskinfo?taskID=3421867 For Rawhide, use this: http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/taskinfo?taskID=3421803 You will need ~600 MB free space in /var/lib since that is where the real appliance gets built. Just install the RPM and run 'boot-a-fedora-appliance' (as root). Then read that script and the README file. Upstream source: http://git.annexia.org/?p=a-fedora-appliance.git;a=summary Those are Koji scratch builds, so I guess they will get deleted after a while. I will recreate them shortly before the test day itself. The appliance uses a separate (external) kernel and initrd. We could change that. Not sure what is the best way for OpenStack though. I've been messing with the i386 ebs-backed F15 on a micro-instance. Very impressed. Really spectacular. Now I've been modifying and adapting it to use as a mail server. I'd like to create a modified ami. I've seen the material using boxgrinder on the wiki: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Cloud_SIG/EC2_Creation but this may require more cloud-foo than I possess. I see on the AWS Management Console an instance action "create image". Would this be a coward's way out? sean

Prior to test day we need to have test plans/matrices for anything cloudy we want users to test, and have some good instructions for users to get things set up to be able to test them. Beta AMI announcement?

Hi folks, I know that there was work afoot to release the F16 Beta AMi on the same day as the rest of F16 Beta. Is that something that is good to go? And if it's not, what was the thing that blocked or held up the release of the Beta? The last AMI that I can see owned by aws(a)fedoraproject.org is 125523088429/Fedora-16-Beta-ec2-20110923-x86_64-sda -- I played around with that AMI and while I think there were a few cloud-init issues, it worked well enough to get the authorized_keys in the right place. I'd also recommend that it become part of the schedule and workflow to update the get.fedoraproject.org page with a link to the AMI IDs, as well as the EC2 Images wiki page itself, with those AMI IDs. Not only for Alpha/Beta, but definitely for GA. Maybe even add a blurb to the release announcement when it talks about the different ways to consume Fedora. To me, those are the sorts of actions that begin to put Fedora on EC2 at a similar level to some of the other architectures, etc. Good think Fedora's PM and RelEng are on this list :) --Max
