self introduction

[Aditya Patawari]

Hello,

I am Aditya Patawari [1]. I am interested in contributing towards Fedora
Cloud SIG, more specifically towards docker. I have been using docker and
it looks very interesting to me. I have gone through the wiki pages and I
think I could start by helping to fill [2]. Does this sounds good? Are
there any "easyfix" tasks for beginners?

I manage systems and infrastructure (both physical and virtualized) as day
job. I am a contributor to Fedora Infra and help out in Ansible migration
by night.

There's a giant list at <https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Cloud/Cloud_ToDo>;,
some of which are "easyfix". We talked about setting up a Cantas board
(that's an open-source trello-alike) but no one has actually done it yet.

Alternately, I might start breaking these down into trac tickets. Does that
sound valuable to anyone? For that matter, if anyone _else_ wants to take
the list and start working on moving it item by item to
<https://fedorahosted.org/cloud/>;, that itself might qualify as a (somewhat
boring but practically helpful) easyfix.

If we want to go with Trac vs. Cantas, I can do that.

Alternately, I can probably throw up a Cantas board on OpenShift, but I
am not sure about integrating it with FAS authentication. Also, Trac is
set up to email to the list, yes? Can we do that with Cantas? If not,
wouldn't we prefer something that also pings the list?

(I have many questions. Sorry.)

Anyway - if we want to go w/Trac tickets, I can do that this weekend.

It is in theory, although I'm not sure that it's working.

Mixed feelings on pinging the list. A couple of the other Fedora mailing
lists which do that are innundated with ticket mail and are poor for actual
discussion because of it. We'll have to see how that goes.

I am +1 to that. Trac is ugly, but it already has the integration and isn't
one more service to worry about. If in the future someone wants to set up
Cantas we can migrate.

I'm going to add some components for the high-level work areas, so tickets
can be categorized.

Library_of_Dockerfiles. I see that several dockerfiles are already
present at [3]. What other stacks do we plan to have? Is there a wish
list?

Starting a wishlist would probably be good idea. We should ask Scott Collier
where he would prefer to track that -- maybe in the github site, maybe in
our trac, maybe in a wiki.

In any case, I'd personally love to see Cantas. :)

exactly what Cantas is. Can you help me with a link? I guess it is some
kind of alternative task manager. Would I have access to this particular
Cantas instance where I can (probably) add this wish list?

It's an open source clone of https://trello.com/. (Trello is great, but in
keeping with our mission we try to use all open source tools for official
Fedora work.)

mailing list.

I'm excited to see interest in expanding the fedora-dockerfiles 
project.  It's a great way to learn Docker and contribute at the same time.

Right now we have these two repos:

In addition, I'm keeping my notes on Docker here:

Now, as for a wishlist, it doesn't exist yet.  What I have right now is 
a needs_work directory in the repo and in that, I have created empty 
folders on things I intend to get to.  For example, skysql, cake, 
etc...  I think a good process would be to create a wiki page so people 
can add to the wishlist quickly and then follow up on that work via 
trac.  I'm interested in feedback as to whether or not that will work 
for everyone.  How do other projects handle this?

Some things on the todo:

1. Take a look at some of the Dockerfiles that were tested on Docker 
0.7.0 and make sure they work on the newest versions.
2. Wiki page creation
3. Adding Dockerfiles and instructions that include examples of linking, 
for example, an apache container linking to a mariadb container.
4. Trac instance, I'm not sure how to do that yet.
5. I'm sure there's more that I'm not thinking of right now.

+1 to the idea of using the wiki and then adding stuff to
trac. For
Fedora Infra, we are following a similar procedure for Ansible
migration.

I see that, in needs_work dir, python dockerfile needs to be created.
Can I fork your repo on github and get you a pull/merge request with
python dockerfile? Or do you want to follow some other procedure?

In a zillion different ways. If you prefer to use github for your workflow,
using their tracker seems reasonable for RFEs -- you can create a "wishlist"
label.

I suppose the "Using Docker on Fedora" paragraph should not be the first
one but after the paragraph "Installing and Configuring Docker on Fedora".
And this new paragraph should explain more how to use Docker when it's
installed.

Got it.  So I'll suggest that we use github for the workflow.  I created 
a couple of wiki pages:

https://github.com/scollier/Fedora-Dockerfiles/wiki

That have some guidelines and a ToDo list.  I believe that anyone can 
edit that wiki, if that's not the case, please let me know.

For now, we'll leave trac out of it.

At some point, I may deprecate the Fedora hosted git repo as I have 
never received a PR through there.

Got it.  So I'll suggest that we use github for the workflow.  I created 
a couple of wiki pages:

https://github.com/scollier/Fedora-Dockerfiles/wiki

That have some guidelines and a ToDo list.  I believe that anyone can 
edit that wiki, if that's not the case, please let me know.

For now, we'll leave trac out of it.

At some point, I may deprecate the Fedora hosted git repo as I have 
never received a PR through there.
