I finally figured out the issue. There was no problem after all. There was a step that I did not mention prior to importing the distribution

Installed cobbler server on RHEL 6.8
Installed the latest version of cobbler from EPEL 2.6.11
Imported RHEL 7.0 and 7.2 distributions from the binary DVD.
   Loop mount the DVD.iso
   rsync it to a directory served under DocumentRoot of the apache
   Ran a "createrepo" against that directory ( I do this so that I can use this as a repository for other servers in the network )
   Then did a cobbler import
Made a kickstart file as follows, slight changes from RHEL6

That createrepo was the problem ! I did an import before that and it worked with all kind of kickstart files...
