Seeking feedback from build ISO users

Hi all,

I'm currently working on some patches regarding the cobbler buildiso feature.

Now i'm wondering who is using the netboot iso and the profiles as
provided in the boot menu, instead of the system records in the menu?
Could you also describe your use case, e.g. why are you using this
feature?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

We are using the buildiso to provision all of our server build's.
We have an environment that we cannot use the normal PXE/bootp server environment. We have
a mixed environment of OS's install and the DNS functions and DHCP functions are
handled by different groups than us.
I have used the buildiso with just the default profiles and for individual systems
builds.

We use ISO to build our systems, since we don't control either DNS and are unable to
manage PXE, we create an ISO for all our systems.

what was the result of this?
Are the profiles staying or will they soon be gone on the netboot iso?
We do use the netboot iso but only with system records.

All profiles are by default still included in the menu. As of cobbler
2.2 it is possible to build an ISO for only selected systems from the
webui, the same is true for selecting profiles from the webui. From
the CLI all profiles and systems are included in the ISO (unless
overridden).

Hi,
All my customers who does'nt have pxe possibilities use this feature 
(which is most of them).
Specially to proceed installation from admin interface (ILO, ...) and 
with VMware VMs.
They use it for it simplicity and ability to build dedicated iso.
Integrated in a script with "cobbler profile" it becomes easy to make 
iso for one or a list of profiles.

The dedicated (non-netinstall) ISO feature is still present and as of
version 2.2 has been extended to also support SuSE, Debian and Ubuntu.
You can even build one from the webui ;-)
