Fedora Outreachy 2015

[Silva Arapi]

Hello!

My name is Silva Arapi, I come from Albania. I am part of Open Labs
Hackerspace <http://openlabs.cc/>;, a community who promotes Free Libre Open
Source Software in Albania. It's been almost a month now, since I got
involved in the group who promotes and contributes in the Fedora Project.
It has been an amazing month, with many events that we have organized and I
have learned way much more about fedora, and feel more confident about the
contribution that I can give for the Fedora Project.

I would like to apply for the Outreachy Program and be part of Community
Operations project. More specifically I would like to work with web testing
and bug reporting or content development. I know HTML5, CSS3, JQuery and
JavaScript and also have some experience with WordPress and Joomla! I will
be waiting for more information on how should I proceed to get involved to
the program.

Hello Silva, welcome to the team!

Awesome to know that you have had experience working with FOSS
communities in your region. Glad to hear that you've already been
contributing to Fedora already!

To begin your journey into CommOps, I'd recommend taking a full read of
the CommOps wiki page which sums up what we're all about, the objectives
we're looking at fulfilling, and the tools that we work with in our work.

Of particular importance is the "Things that the Fedora Community
Operations (CommOps) Team helps with" section.

If you haven't already, another wiki page you should definitely read to
get started is the Outreachy wiki page. There is plenty of information
there as well about some of the tasks we are looking for assistance with.

The best way for you to get your feet wet with the project is work on
the series of badges that we've identified as the "Bootstrapped!"
series. If you are not familiar with Fedora Badges, they are a unique
way that we could encourage participation within the community by giving
badges to contributors for reaching certain milestones. The
"Bootstrapped!" series is a list of the most common badges, and it's a
great way to gain some experience with learning more about how Fedora works.

Sounds like you have a decent amount of interest with working with web
apps and other content development. I know Remy asked you on IRC what
your specific interests were in working with on the web, but I wasn't
connected long enough to see an answer. In any case, there are many

Hello Justin, thank you for your support :)
Yes Remy and I had a conversation regarding my interest in working with the
web and he suggested me to contribute to the new blog started for all
things community related: http://communityblog.fedoraproject.org and I
would be happy to! He also asked me to give a first contribution and add a
few things at the commops wiki, which I did but haven't been able to
communicate with Remy yet.
I would like to know how should i proceed, if you can help me :)

the place to get immediate answers to your questions if you are blocking or
need more information.

If you haven't already, take a look at the application process on
http://outreachy.gnome.org, and start drafting a plan of work. We recommend
using a collaborative text editing tool like Etherpad (
http://etherpad.osuosl.org) so that mentors can easily provide input.

#fedora-commops and/or #fedora-outreachy :)
