5tftw status
by Justin W. Flory
Hey Matt,
Happy Thanksgiving week!
Just wanted to ask about the 5tftw series and check in about the status
of the next upcoming article. There's a nice, healthy amount of
information available on the Piratepad that we've drafted up, so you
should have a nice queue of information to pick from when writing your
next article.
https://www.piratepad.ca/p/5tftw
If you'd like any extra help with this, just let us know. I could try to
help get one for Friday if you'd like. :)
Thanks!

Introduction
by Dan Mossor
Greetings.
I have been following the CommOps group rather passively since it's
inception, and have been impressed by what I've witnessed. I have been
trying to determine if my particular "position" within Fedora would a.)
allow me to contribute to CommOps and b.) bring anything relevant to the
project.
In conversation on IRC this evening jflory7 and cprofitt assured me that
my presence was welcome, so I hereby wish to introduce myself as step 2
in joining the CommOps group.
My name is Dan Mossor, and I am an active contributor to the KDE,
Server, and QA teams, and a Fedora Ambassador in San Antonio, Texas. I
am a TA at my University where I assist the professors with their
networking and operating systems classes, and I have just taken a job
teaching Linux+ here in San Antonio.
To be honest, I don't know what else to say here. I'd just be
regurgitating my wiki page if I continued. I would like to join y'all
and do what I can to promote cooperation and cohesiveness throughout the
Fedora Project, to help Fedora remain the premier community supported
open source operating system and the leading distributor of open source
technologies.
Regards,
Dan Mossor

Atomic package testers in Bodhi + CommBlog
by Justin W. Flory
Hello all,
Quick introduction, I'm Justin W. Flory and I spend most of my time over
with the Fedora CommOps team (IRC: #fedora-commops). It recently popped
up on my radar thanks to Ralph Bean that the Atomic team was looking for
more testers for some of your bleeding edge packages in Bodhi.
Just a couple of weeks ago, we recently launched a new "news source" for
news related specifically to Fedora contributors, the Fedora Community Blog.
https://communityblog.fedoraproject.org/
There's all kinds of things going on in the Fedora community every day,
and the Community Blog (CommBlog) aims to make it easier for
contributors to keep track of what is happening across the Project.
Contributors from all areas of the project are encouraged to add short
articles to help provide info about what's going on in the community,
who needs help, what's coming up, etc.
To help bring more attention to the need of Atomic package testers, I
encourage you all to check out this page about writing an article for
the CommBlog.
https://communityblog.fedoraproject.org/writing-community-blog-article/
Thanks all, if you have any questions, you can email directly or you can
hop into #fedora-commops on Freenode and we'd be happy to help get you
guys started.

Community Blog Python 3 FAD Article
by Justin W. Flory
Hello all,
Thanks to Matt's quick responses to the interview questions, I was able
to write up a preliminary draft of an article for the Community Blog
about the upcoming Fedora Activity Day for Python 3 package porting. It
is set to occur over this weekend, so I would like to aim for it be
pushed out Thursday morning, Friday at the latest.
https://communityblog.fedoraproject.org/?p=91&preview=true
I would appreciate if some other people wanted to give it a quick
look-over or make a featured image since I think this is a pretty
notable topic. Some of the content is missing (e.g. why Python 3 over
Python 2?) and I am hoping to have that filled in over the next day or
so. Otherwise, it's pretty content-complete.
Thanks!

The Trac system article
by Keerthana Krishnan
Hey guys,
So as discussed in the last meeting, we're planning an article/
improvements to Trac wiki to make it more user friendly, especially to new
contributors. Please give your suggestions in reply to this. I'll post my
drafts including your suggestions by next week.

"Thankful" Hashtag Campaign: #FOSSgiving
by Remy DeCausemaker
bkp,
We're overdue for a catchup on a variety of things, but I have a
specific request from Fedora magazine.
Today, in our Editorial meeting we discussed how with next week being
the Holiday, we wanted to do something special, but we also wouldn't
have as much time/people/resources to publish major articles.
So what we came up with was a social media campaign to encourage
people to be "Thankful" during Thanksgiving, and tag/shout-out/thank
any Free/Open Source Software people/projects in a tweet.
We would then cherry pick some of the best ones, to be embedded in a
Fedora Magazine Post and published on Thanksgiving.
I got no matches on #FOSSgiving, so that one is my vote, but some
other hashtags we were throwing around were:
#FedoraFriends (some noise)
#Friendora (some noise)
#ThankYouFOSS
#FOSSTgiving
#TYFOSS
#FOSSTY
#ThanksFromFedora
#FedoraThanksyou
#thnxfrmfedora
#FedoraLove (noisy)
Some Possible Tweets Introducing the Hashtag:
Have a favorite Free Software or Open Source Project, Community, or
Contributor? Take a moment to say Thank You this year with #FOSSgiving
Have a favorite #FreeSoftware or #OpenSource Project, Community, or
Contributor? Take a moment to say #ThankYou this year with #FOSSgiving
Have a favorite Free Software or Open Source Project, Community, or
Contributor? Take a moment to be #Thankful this year with #FOSSgiving
Have a favorite #FreeSoftware or #OpenSource Project, Community, or
Contributor? Take a moment to say Thank You this year with #FOSSgiving
Some example tweets could be like:
This #FOSSgiving I'm thankful for @tpope and his #vim plugins that
help me every day to write every line of text in a fraction of the
time
This #FOSSGiving I'm thankful for @inkscape which I use to design and
create at home and at work (and for saving me thousands of dollars!)
I'm cc'ing the mktg, commops, and design list on this thread, so that
we can all work together to help promote this and make it happen.
Thoughts?
