With what you and Ruth said, it seems like it might be a good idea to
space meetings on a monthly basis, and maybe increase frequency in the
month / two months before the release?
I think the next step might be to put a potential meeting date and
timeslot on the map for 2016.

End of Year Marketing Retrospective
by Remy DeCausemaker
mktgs,
Across the Project, one of the tools we use to get better at what wedo
is a Retrospective. This is a report compiled by contributors that
more or less lists the things that went well/not-so-well, and ideas
for improvement. You can find examples on the wiki (QA has some recent
pages like https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Fedora_21_QA_Retrospective
and https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Fedora_21_Retrospective)
Marketing Retrospectives were once based upon SOPs (Standard Operating
Procedures) for doing marketing tasks like creating the alpha/beta/final
announcements, briefing ambassadors, and other interesting and crucial
work. Some are a bit dated, but you can find them here:
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Category:Marketing_SOPs
Since we didn't totally stick to an SOP for releases this year, we're
just going to gather extra 'after the fact' feedback and data to make
improvements to our process, going back to Fedora 22 when possible.
Here are a few questions we'd like to take a stab at answering on our wiki page:
- What did we do right?
- What can we do better?
- Where did we have gaps?
- How did we bridge them?
After we've gotten this retrospective fleshed out, we'd like to
reinstate regular mktg meetings on IRC in early 2016. Keep an eye on
the lists for updates.
If folks have any questions about this email, or additional questions
they think would provide value to the retrospective, please update the
wiki before Friday 12/18 (or even just respond here, and commops will
update the wiki from this thread.)
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/2015_marketing_retrospective
Looking Forward,
--RemyD.
P.S. --
Too often FOSS Communities must take care not to settle into negative
feedback loops. Below is an excellent quote from some further reading
on the subject of pointing fingers and blamery, recommended to me by
mattdm:
"...it's like peeing in your pants. You feel relieved and perhaps even
nice and warm for a little while, but then it gets cold and
uncomfortable..."

Retrospectives are all about identifying direction and moving forward
in a positive manner :)

Hi Anisha,
Thanks for sharing these articles, they were both really good reads. :)
I'm CC'ing the CommOps list too as I think the perspective about women
in computing might be of interest to some of the objectives and tasks
being worked on by the CommOps team.
For the second article, about the Pune FUDCon, this would be fantastic
to share on the Fedora Community Blog! The Community Blog is a
relatively new site in Fedora that focuses on sharing news specific to
the Fedora contributor community. I definitely think either a repost or
a "pointer" article referencing your full article would be a great
article to put up on there. I have the relevant links below!
Thanks for sharing. :)

Hi Oussama!
Nice work on the report, this looks like it was a successful event!
It would be great for you to also share your event report on the
Fedora Community Blog - this is a newer site focused on news
specific for Fedora contributors. It's also WordPress, so you could
copy and paste the blog post from your blog to the Community Blog.

If you need help getting started on the Community Blog, you can
visit #fedora-commops on IRC or check out the CommOps mailing list.

Tshepo,
It's going to be somewhat quiet over the Holidays, but IRC is really the
place where our contributors all hang out and work together. You can meet
mentors, listen in on developing projects, and ask and answer questions
from other folks looking to get involved just like you.
Here are a few channel recommendations (all on Freenode):
#fedora-join - IRC for folks involved in onboarding an helping new
contributors. Also the folks who run this list
#fedora-commops - Fedora Community Operations. We help fill in the gaps,
and bring more heat and light to all corners of the Fedora Project.
#fedora-devel - Our main development channel, this has the most people in
it, and is a good place to listen in.
#fedora-mktg - This is the channel where we work together to help with
messaging and outward facing communications. This includes our major
publications and press releases.
You can find a complete listing of IRC channels and instructions on how to
use them here on the Fedora Wiki:
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Communicating_and_getting_help#IRC_for_int...
Another new and interesting tool that we have for new contributors is our
new "Sorting Hat" style website: http://whatcanidoforfedora.org. This
website provides a Q&A decision tree to help you find which parts of the
project you might be interested in.
Hope these help, and we look forward to seeing you in channel :)

I see. How often were meetings happening in the past? From my
perspective, I think maybe the frequency as well as the organizational
pre-meeting plans could be adjusted. I know for the CommOps group, we
have a very rough outline of "things to cover" in the meetings in a wiki
outline. Additionally, having ticket-oriented meetings also seems to
have had decent success with the Design Team. Perhaps we could try to
incorporate tickets as a central part of our meetings?

[Marketing] Getting in gear for 2016
by Justin W. Flory
Hey all,
It was discussed in channel that it might be a good idea to reboot
regular Marketing meetings in 2016 to help get on track and ready for
2016. Gabri is helping bring back the retrospective to let us reflect
back on what we've done and where we can improve - this might make a
good discussion topic for jumping back in with a meeting.
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/2015_marketing_retrospective
It was also mentioned that it might be good to include CommOps on the
discussion to help connect Marketing to the other parts of the Project.
What are all of your timetables looking like for the New Year and do we
want to look at putting meetings back on the map? I've only been here
for a few months and I've mostly been in the Magazine, so I know there
are others who have been around for many more cycles than me that might
have some experienced thoughts to offer.
Thanks all!
