Hi Fabio, and welcome to the Marketing team! I will reply in-line to
your email.

I think it's great that you're deciding to get involved with Marketing
in addition to those areas. You bring a unique perspective both as
someone active in the code of Fedora and also in the field as an
Ambassador. Having this additional perspectives can help add to your
contributions in Marketing. :)

Wiki gardening has been a hot topic lately, and it's something that the
Fedora Community Operations (CommOps) team is helping handle and
improve. Specifically on the topic of Outreach, this is an area that
we've been working closely with, especially with Fedora's recent
involvement with the Outreachy program.
I recommend that you also check out the CommOps team too and see what's
going on over there. You may find that there are things that you may be
able to help with there too. :)

That's awesome that you're looking to contribute to the Magazine! There
are a few resources in place that will help you get started writing.
Firstly, read this page about the writing process for the Magazine and
the different stages of articles. Everything starts off as a pitch, and
to help prevent wasted time, your article "idea" starts as a pitch, then
becomes a draft, and then will be ready for editing and review before
final publishing.
https://fedoramagazine.org/writing-an-article-for-the-fedora-magazine/
Writing a good pitch is also helpful not only to help clarify your idea,
but it's also a good time for you to plan out a rough outline of what
you want to write about. See this page about writing a good pitch.

Looking forward to seeing you more in Marketing! If you're free on
Thursdays at 22:00 UTC, you should come to the weekly Magazine editorial
board meetings.
Also, check out this poll and add your free time to it for helping plan
2016 Marketing meetings. We're looking at picking these back up soon, so
it's not too late to add your times.

[Magazine] Fedora "Year in Review" article scheduled
by Justin W. Flory
Hello all,
"What is a Fedora “Year in Review”?" is drafted, edited, and scheduled
for tomorrow at 8:00 UTC. The article should be complete, but any second
looks, as always, are appreciated!
https://fedoramagazine.org/?p=11572&preview=true
Since I only started the draft today, there was no where to put a
featured image yet, but I noticed the one that Paul committed two days
ago. I loaded it up in Inkscape and exported it as a PNG and just used that.

[Reading] What makes a good community?
by Justin W. Flory
Hi all,
I stumbled across this article by Sarah Sharp, a former Linux kernel
developer. There was a lot of controversy stirred up after the
explanation of why she left the Linux kernel community, which is also a
good read if you aren't familiar.
In October, she published an article about what makes a good (and
healthy) open source community. In light of our recent discussion about
women in computing and the article that we have planned for the
CommBlog, I thought this was a good resource to check out.

Year in Review - CommOps Special Edition
by Justin W. Flory
Hello all,
Today, in #fedora-commops, Remy, Bee, myself, a few others helped
collaborate on a rough outline of our own 2015 highlights and goals for
2016. Since we are the ones helping push for this across Fedora, it is
important that we get our own Year in Review as soon as possible - we're
looking as early as Thursday!
To help expedite the process, I'd like to ask you all to please view
this Etherpad and give a quick review. Although the minimum we required
was three 2015 highlights and one 2016 goal, we are doing a few more to
set a precedent that although that is the minimum, you don't *have* to
just three + one.
http://etherpad.osuosl.org/fedora-commops-yir-2015
To summarize the Etherpad:
**2015 Highlights**:
1) Community Operations is now an official subgroup
2) Community Blog offers a cumulative source of all news "Fedora",
from inside the project
3) CommOps involvement with 2015 December Elections increased
participation and made it the fourth most participated in Election of
all time
**2016 Goals**:
1) Increased centralization of the Fedora Project community with
the Community Blog, increased availability of metrics, and support for
different subgroups
1.1) Increasing content and traffic on the Community Blog by
doubling our content and traffic by the end of 2016 (?)
2) Instrument the unification of communication channels
(auto-publishing of approved Fedora content on social media channels,
Fedora Hubs deployed and new face of community by 2017)
3) Reaching more diverse types of contributors in Fedora
3.1) Goes hand in hand with Outreachy and more Graphics / Docs /
Translation / Games people. This needs a number to be a true "goal" -
shouldn't be an empty number but should also be realistic. Would be good
to get mizmo, tatica, and bee2502's thoughts about where we should target!
4) Onboarding badge series for all subprojects
This is all open to discussion, hoping to get some feedback about these
highlights and goals. :)

End of Year Marketing Retrospective
by Remy DeCausemaker
mktgs,
Across the Project, one of the tools we use to get better at what wedo
is a Retrospective. This is a report compiled by contributors that
more or less lists the things that went well/not-so-well, and ideas
for improvement. You can find examples on the wiki (QA has some recent
pages like https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Fedora_21_QA_Retrospective
and https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Fedora_21_Retrospective)
Marketing Retrospectives were once based upon SOPs (Standard Operating
Procedures) for doing marketing tasks like creating the alpha/beta/final
announcements, briefing ambassadors, and other interesting and crucial
work. Some are a bit dated, but you can find them here:
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Category:Marketing_SOPs
Since we didn't totally stick to an SOP for releases this year, we're
just going to gather extra 'after the fact' feedback and data to make
improvements to our process, going back to Fedora 22 when possible.
Here are a few questions we'd like to take a stab at answering on our wiki page:
- What did we do right?
- What can we do better?
- Where did we have gaps?
- How did we bridge them?
After we've gotten this retrospective fleshed out, we'd like to
reinstate regular mktg meetings on IRC in early 2016. Keep an eye on
the lists for updates.
If folks have any questions about this email, or additional questions
they think would provide value to the retrospective, please update the
wiki before Friday 12/18 (or even just respond here, and commops will
update the wiki from this thread.)
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/2015_marketing_retrospective
Looking Forward,
--RemyD.
P.S. --
Too often FOSS Communities must take care not to settle into negative
feedback loops. Below is an excellent quote from some further reading
on the subject of pointing fingers and blamery, recommended to me by
mattdm:
"...it's like peeing in your pants. You feel relieved and perhaps even
nice and warm for a little while, but then it gets cold and
uncomfortable..."
~Sydney Decker, "A Look at Looking in the Mirror" by J. Paul Reed.''
http://www.slideshare.net/jhand2/its-not-your-fault-blameless-post-mortems
https://codeascraft.com/2012/05/22/blameless-postmortems/
Retrospectives are all about identifying direction and moving forward
in a positive manner :)

Agreed! Publicizing our Open graphics as a tool available to Fedorans
who are contributing written content, or looking to promote our
content visually is an excellent idea.
#action commops add a link to "Fedora Magazine Images Repo" to
"commops toolbox" wiki entry
(https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/CommOps#Toolbox)
#action commops add this (as a ticket?) to be discussed during "Wiki
Gardening" on the meeting agenda for next week (1/12)
As far as adding it to the CommBlog, I think we should add it into our
"How to write for CommBlog" article that we point folks to.
#action commops add "Fedora Magazine Images Repo" section in the "How
