Review Request -
by Brian Exelbierd
Hi All,
I believe my write up of the Docs session at Flock is ready. I would
appreciate some input. In particular, please look at the readability
concerns. While I am not concerned by the findings and expected some of
them given the topic, I want to make sure the posting meets the
standards for this blog.
https://communityblog.fedoraproject.org/wp-admin/post.php?post=2082&actio...
Also, jflory has said he would make a quick picture to go at the top :)
Thank you.

Hey All,
I've been doing a few activities with the intent of getting more contributors and engaging students to develop some projects on the Fedora , making them industry ready with the technologies which are impacting the current market. Here is a small writeup of the activity which I did last night!

Fedora Magazine article pitch: Containers & Building Fedora Images
by Courtney Pacheco
Hi everyone,
I'm looking to write some articles for Fedora Magazine.
I basically want to discuss how we can build different types of Fedora
images using Imagefactory. For example, docker images, qcow2 images, etc.
I have some Github gists that I wrote a while back, which you can find
below (I promise they're not very long!).
https://gist.github.com/iamcourtney/133df26ef9b40d2071d6950e63e403c8
https://gist.github.com/iamcourtney/30c6c6d205326e335963abb0343b2100
Essentially, I want to encourage Fedora users to learn more about images
in general, and how to build their own images with Imagefactory (since
Koji and other tools are built on Imagefactory).
I also haven't seen any Imagefactory tutorials which do the same things
that I'm doing, not even in the Imagefactory docs.
So, I'm looking at writing a series of articles... maybe Part 1, Part 2,
and Part 3.
Part 1 - Why images? Why containers? Which image type is most suitable
for your needs (qcow2, qed, docker, vdi, vps, vmdk, etc.)?
Part 2 - Building Docker images
Part 3 - Building qcow2 images
I think this idea would be a magazine article as opposed to a Fedora
Community Blog article , so please let me know what you think :)
Best,
Courtney

Self-Introduction: Michael Downey
by Michael Downey
Hi everyone! Michael Downey here -- I'm a long-time supporter of free & open source software, and Fedora user for the past several years. I've been looking forward to contributing for quite a while. I've been doing open source community stuff since 2009, most recently with OpenMRS, an open source Health IT platform, and since the end of may, helping with the launch the new LibreHealth community.
Because of the new wiki anti-spam process that started this weekend, [0] I'm not able to set up a personal homepage there yet, but you can find me around the web and on IRC as "downey". While I'm eager to "chip in" wherever I can around here once I learn more about what's needed, with my background I'm extra interested in Messaging, Hubs, Wiki, Culture, & Metrics (as listed on the CommOps "Join" wiki page that I can't yet edit.) ;-)
I'm working on my badges [1] already and hope to see some of you in the #fedora-commops IRC meeting this Tuesday. Nice to "meet" you all!
Cheers,
Michael

[Community Operations (CommOps)] #80: Create 'wiki-editors' FAS group
by fedora-badges
#80: Create 'wiki-editors' FAS group
-------------------------+--------------------
Reporter: jflory7 | Owner:
Type: enhancement | Status: new
Priority: major | Milestone: ASAP
Component: Outreach | Severity: urgent
Keywords: |
-------------------------+--------------------
= problem =
The Fedora Account System (FAS) has been under near constant attacks by
spammers for months. As a security pre-measure, editing privileges on the
wiki have been revoked to only those with CLA+1 privileges.
Some teams have a dependence on the wiki for some tasks involving new
members or getting started with contributing. This can be a potential
blocker for new contributors getting involved with the project.
= analysis =
It was discussed having a FAS group that alleviates this problem without
necessarily sponsoring new contributors into a FAS group for a team. For
example, a ''wiki-editors'' FAS group that gives interested users access
to edit the wiki and access something like their fedorapeople.org space
(and subsequently, the Fedora Planet).
= enhancement recommendation =
1. Create a new FAS group: ''wiki-editors''
2. Invite leading members from other sub-projects as sponsors to the
group.
3. Document the existence of this group and how to get sponsored in the
general "Join" section on the wiki*.
4. Share an update about this on the Community Blog.
A few notes:
* Administration of the group could be handled by CommOps
* Steps for getting sponsored into the group would depend on each
individual sub-project's on-boarding process (e.g. introduce yourself on
mailing list, then you will be able to be sponsored to ''wiki-editors'')
* Some evaluation / updating for existing on-boarding steps would need to
be considered for this new requirement
Curious to know what everyone else's thoughts are on this or if this
implementation sounds like a good idea. +1s / +0s / -1s welcome!

[Minutes] [2016-08-09] CommOps workshop feedback, on-boarding series, FAS group for wiki-editors
by Justin W. Flory
Hey CommOps! Today's meeting just wrapped up.
On the agenda for today, we went over the CommOps workshop at Flock
(mostly going through the feedback we received and making it more
parseable), talking about where we're going with the on-boarding series
(hello Python SIG!), and the topic of a 'wiki-editors' FAS group, which
we decided to close.
The past couple of weeks have also been extraordinarily busy for the
CommBlog too. :)
More info is all below! See you all next week!
