Writing Documentation for Fedora - Docs FAD
by Brian Exelbierd
We are looking for interested people who are willing to write docs in person for one week. You don't have to be an existing docs team member to participate. It helps if you're familiar with AsciiDoc, but if you're not, it's easy to learn.
You'll hang out with other people interested in making Fedora documentation the best in the world. Fun will be had, but mostly it will be the sort of fun which involves sitting in a small room intensely focused on writing and editing. If that's *your* idea of a good time, this will be a good experience for you.
You can find details about the FAD, including the goals here: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/FAD_Documentation_2018
The Fedora Council has approved funding and we will make selections based on the ability to the person asking and within our approved travel budget. https://pagure.io/Fedora-Council/tickets/issue/174
Interested? Open a Pagure ticket in the Fedora Docs tracker here: https://pagure.io/fedora-docs
Please include:
- Your Name/FAS
- Why you want to come and what your background in writing (of any kind) is.
- Any specific areas of interest
- Location you will travel from
We will start picking people ASAP.
Thanks,
bex & Matthew

Deflating expectations for election questionnaires (was: Autumn Elections 2017 are cancelled)
by Justin W. Flory
I've had this message unread in my inbox for some time – I think there's
a lot of value in Paul's response. During the election discussion at the
FAD, I'd like to revisit our approach on community engagement, both with
nominees and the impact on the community.

IMHO questionnaires can and should be reduced to a minimum amount of
relevant writing. For instance:
* What experience makes you suited for this elected body?
* What goals do you have for being on this body if elected?
Deflating expectations around these governing groups would help make
them feel more accessible and interesting to contributors. After all,
we're talking about voluntary positions in a free software project,
not bodies with vast legislative or executive power.

Today's meeting was brief. We took a quick look at the action items for
our FAD in two weeks. We also highlighted a few tickets that needed some
extra help, and hopefully will get some new folks started on those tasks.

* The easyfix page highlights good "starter" bugs or tasks in various
projects across Fedora. But it's not obvious how to get your bugs
listed there! You have to add your project to a wiki page in a
specific format. We need someone to share how to do this. (jwf,

bit the changes in the wiki" === (jwf, 15:57:29)
* LINK: https://pagure.io/fedora-commops/issue/127 (jwf, 15:57:29)
* The wiki got a lot of love in December. There's new features or ways
of doing things that need to be documented. This ticket involves
some research about the changes, and then writing a short
informative article about the changes. Bonus points for writing a
doc! (jwf, 15:57:37)
* === Ticket #128: "Create Pagure pull request how-to documentation"
=== (jwf, 15:57:52)
* LINK: https://pagure.io/fedora-commops/issue/128 (jwf, 15:57:52)
* Making a pull request may sound obvious, but to many people, it's
not. This ticket helps explain how to make a Pagure pull request.
This helps many teams in Fedora. It should be in the form of a
Fedora doc. We can help you get started! (jwf, 15:57:58)
* Open floor (jwf, 16:11:43)
* ACTION: jwf Review wesleyotugo's Bodhi Year in Review post, combined
with bowlofeggs' feedback, get scheduled! (jwf, 16:11:47)
* ACTION: jwf Confirm with Rhea when the meeting room is available,
make agenda to go on wiki (jwf, 16:17:04)
Meeting ended at 16:17:34 UTC.

Hi Julita!
This post has more information about how to share a Year in Review post
on the Community Blog:
https://communityblog.fedoraproject.org/fedora-2017-year-in-review/
This should answer your questions. If not, reach out on the CommOps list
and we can help you further!

Can you start figuring this data out? I don't have the trend data for our twitter followers handy, but research started now is going to be useful later.

This is a question we need to decide how to answer. I think we should figure out a good way to recognize groups of community members who are not using our official channels. Perhaps you could draft some wording on this?
