So, I am forwarding this discussion to CommOps ML.
I was hoping we could discuss further on :
1. Deliverables for the metrics
*analysis + graphs automation
Okay, so, for the user contribution stats I did, I took output from
something Ralph made and a) filtered out non-FAS names and obvious bots
and then b) ran
http://paste.fedoraproject.org/341114/54434145/ against
it, which gave me a csv file with weekly rows and two datasets, each
split into four columns split (top 1%, next 9%, next 40%, bottom 50%).
First dataset is total number of actions for users in each bucket;
second dataset is total number of _users_ in each bucket that week.
Something which made a continually-growing CSV file for bodhi, distgit,
and wiki edits would be a great start. Producing updated graphs would
be icing on top.
And adding the exact same thing for other fedmsg activity would be nice on
top of that.
One thing to take into account is the recent spate of people signing up
for a real FAS account and then using it to spam the wiki; some way of
filtering those out would be nice.
*Are we only looking to replicate past metric questions ?
No. More is better. :)
I'd love some way for conference-impact tracking based on the work
you've been doing recently to be automated, or at least semi-automated.
And it'd be nice to add more as we all think of new questions. The
wiki/bodhi/distgit dataset above could be analyzed to produce some
graphs about new contributors, old contributors, and longevity and
turnover.
2. Location for uploading the scripts
I was thinking fedora-stats-tools repo on github :
https://github.com/fedora-infra/fedora-stats-tools
Sounds good.
Another question is the place to _run_ the automated scripts and where
the results land.
3.Deadline
I am a bit swamped right now but could work on this over the weekend. Would
it be an issue ?
Not at all! From my point of view:
I'm going to be at Community Leadership Summit in May, and there's a
metrics track, and I'd love to show off then. And, the next place where
I'll probably really present in detail is Flock in August, so this
weekend is plenty of time ahead.
I'd also like to be able to answer these questions in general when
reporters and other people ask them, and the overall goal is to have
these automated and at our fingertips — but any step towards that is
closer than we are now!
