meeting today: open floor
by Matthew Miller
Today's meeting (#fedora-meeting at 18:00 UTC) is open floor; basically
making sure we talk about anything we need to before the Christmas /
New Year break. The main big thing I'm aware of is the FUDCon bid; are
there other topics?
Then, the next month looks like this:
Dec 21: Skip for Holidays
Dec 28: Skip for Holidays
Jan 4: Open Floor <- I'll be traveling, btw
Jan 11: Tickets/Ongoing

canceling meeting today
by Matthew Miller
I spoke with Langdon and he says he'll have a lot more to show after
the holidays.
Next week, we'll be back with an open floor meeting, and then we're off
until January.

For what it's worth, I barely read fedora-devel any more these days
because I can't handle Reindl's combative and insulting messages. It
almost feels like every second message there is from him so there's no way
to ignore that person either.
I would support his suspension too. His messages are bringing down the
whole development mailing list and people are afraid to post there because
they get immediately insulted.
Please do something. Just a temporary suspension for now please. You can
continue discussing life time ban feasibility and other related things
afterwards; they are orthogonal to the issue at hand.

Yes, I would think it's mostly a communication issue. Maybe it's an issue
of expressing himself in English, and in his native language his choice of
words would not felt that negative?

next Flock we have a workshop with CWG and work on a proposal to deal w/
bad interaction (Fedora irc users channels are also regularly quoted for
being unfriendly). I can organize it, but I'd rather have someone less
involved to moderate the session.
That's a great and constructive idea. Does anyone know how other
communities are dealing with the same problem? Should we encourage
excellent behavior more rather than punishing unwanted interaction?

Comment (by hguemar):
I agree that life-time ban is too much for Harald, the problem is not what
he says (everyone is entitled to his opinion) but *how* he communicates.
Few quotes from irc (this morning)
"so a newcomer coming here would be totally justified in thinking he is
one of the top contributors to Fedora, and that his behaviour represents
the norm"
"to me.. it looks like it's tacitly accepted"
So this gives off the impression to our contributors and interested folks
that we are a bunch of rude and unfriendly people constantly ranting, and
perfectly fine with this.
Btw, rather than focusing on a single individual, I suggest that for next
Flock we have a workshop with CWG and work on a proposal to deal w/ bad
interaction (Fedora irc users channels are also regularly quoted for being
unfriendly). I can organize it, but I'd rather have someone less involved
to moderate the session.
And an idea of keynote for Flock:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rOWmrlft2FI (so people could understand
what's the problem).
Let's have the community come up w/ a proposal and stop that neverending
discussion.

???
Does that mean you suggest a life-time ban? It might be better to tell
*what* you would do rather than telling what you would *not* find
acceptable.
This is getting out of hand, IMO. Harald certainly is passionate both as a
user and as a critic. And that can be a good thing, if you learn to
extract the helpful bits from his feedback rather than trying to convince
him of the contrary. There are enough examples where he is right, and
trying to argue with him then gives a feeling of deliberate provocation.
