Objective Idea: Fedora Community Outreach Revamp
by Mariana Balla
This objective will be an initiative to revamp several community outreach teams within Fedora that are struggling to function, or need more support to truly become a success. The objective will bring together Ambassadors, Ambassador Emeritus, Join SIG, and Advocates all under the same umbrella of CommOps in a clear and cohesive structure.
Work involved:
The objective will be based on a proposal that has been approved by the Mindshare Committee. [1] The revamp is being co-led by Sumantro Muhkerjee and Mariana Balla with the support of Marie Nordin, FCAIC. Sumantro and Mariana will co-lead the Objective as well if approved.
There has been a call for volunteers, and kick-off meetings are being arranged. [2] The proposal is also inclusive of the different teams under Mindshare, assigning tasks for each team to own. A further breakdown of tasks, timelines, and blockers can be found on the Revamp Trello board. [3]
Desired outcome:
The desired outcome for the Community Outreach Revamp is for Fedora’s outreach teams to be functioning successfully. The teams should be reinvigorated, understand their different roles clearly, and have all the tools to effectively outreach. Another desired outcome for this revamp is to rebuild contributor fulfilment in various ways.
Why this initiative should be a Fedora objective:
This initiative should become a Fedora objective for a variety of reasons. It is a large coordinated effort that will take 6-12 months to complete. Community outreach is an important aspect of the Fedora Project that does not get as much visibility as some technical initiatives. Making the Revamp an Objective will bring increased visibility. It will help to interest more people to contribute, and furthermore it will also bring credibility to the work that is being done. It will also create accountability to the Council to ensure the work is moving forward.
Feedback from the Council:
Please respond to this mail with thoughts, considerations, or suggestions for improvement. Once we receive feedback we will begin putting together the formal Objective proposal. [4]

[2020-09-10] [minutes] Event organizer pack, FWD survey Q's approved,
docs docs docs!
by Justin W. Flory (he/him)
Hi all! The Fedora D&I Team wrapped up our first of two meetings this
month a few moments ago. This is a brief recap of what we covered!
===== <highlights> =====
* Event resource pack for FWD organizers will be pulled out into
something more general, e.g. "inclusive event practices for organizers".
Also might work well with Bee's event guide in ticket #54.
* FWD planning survey questions approved. Ashlyn and Vipul will connect
on moving the Hackmd pad questions into Limesurvey. Will finalize once
we lock down date choices.
* FWD + GNOME call will be sometime next week. A Doodle poll is out and
will be scheduled by end of day Friday, 11 Sept.
* Who has docs? D&I has docs! And we want your help! There are a few
docs tickets open that could use a hand. Check the minutes for more info.
===== </highlights> =====
I will be unable to chair the next meeting in two weeks, so I will need
someone to substitute for me. I'll send out a separate email for that
shortly.
Thanks all for participating! We had a jam-packed meeting today. Have a
great rest of your week!

Fedora priorities for RH CPE team -- let's make a list
by Matthew Miller
Red Hat's Community Platform Engineering Team¹ works on Fedora
infrastructure and release engineering as part of Red Hat's overall Linux
organization, which runs on a quarterly planning process. Q4 planning is
coming up in early September, and CPE leadership has asked for "insights"
from the Fedora community as an input into that process.
Obviously a lot of that team works directly in Fedora on a day-to-day basis,
so this isn't meant to be a low-level work request detail. The request is
for a high-level overview of what we as a project care about from RH's
contribututions to the project via this team for October, November, and
December.
This is the start of what I expect will be a new routine — we'll do this
again in late November for Q1 2021² and so on. But for now the focus is on
Q4. With the datacenter move wrapping up, the auth system replacement
hopefully by then successful, etc., what is now most important and most
urgent?
1. https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/cpe/
2. Red Hat is now on calendar-year-aligned quarters!

I have a few questions/suggestions:
- What's the result of the text editor poll?
- "Changing the default text editor to one which has an obvious way to exit^Q" - where was that mailing list topic?
- It would be nice to have a 'top mails' every month or something, aggregating all lists (in response on me missing that mail thread).
- Are there slides/any clarification/recording for the internet lost part (26 minutes, about dnf telemetrics)?
- What's the "open-source software used to make the Fedora Org Chart"?

Team directory docs
by Ben Cotton
Hi all,
I've published the first draft of the docs for the team directory in
an attempt to address the questions raised in last week's meeting:
https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/council/procedures/team_directory/
This incorporates the high points from the original discussion at the
November 2019 face-to-face as well as the pre-Nest virtual
face-to-face earlier this month.
Does this make the expectations and purpose more clear?
(Note that this is not yet linked from anywhere else. That will happen
once we're relatively settled with the content)
