Bug ID: 1738968
Summary: gimp-layer-via-copy-cut depends on Python 2

Version: rawhide
Status: NEW

Blocks: 1698500 (F31_PY2REMOVAL)
Target Milestone: ---
Classification: Fedora
Python 2.7 will reach end-of-life in January 2020, over 9 years after it was
released. This falls within the Fedora 31 lifetime.
Packages that depend on Python 2 are being switched to Python 3 or removed from
Fedora:
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Changes/F31_Mass_Python_2_Package_Removal#In…
Python 2 will be retired in Fedora 32:
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Changes/RetirePython2
To help planning, we'd like to know the plans for gimp-layer-via-copy-cut's
future. Specifically:
- What is the reason for the Python2 dependency? (Is it software written in
Python, or does it just provide Python bindings, or use Python in the build
system or test runner?)
- What are the upstream/community plans/timelines regarding Python 3?
- What is the guidance for porting to Python 3? (Assuming that there is someone
who generally knows how to port to Python 3, but doesn't know anything about
the particular package, what are the next steps to take?)
This bug is filed semi-automatically, and might not have all the context
specific to gimp-layer-via-copy-cut.
If you need anything from us, or something is unclear, please mention it here.
Thank you.

Summary: Current Blender build (2.81.16) is compiled without
Open Image Denoise.

The image show the error contained in the denoise node.
Description of problem:
The current version of blender provided in the Fedora 31 repository is built
without the Open Image Denoise algorithm enabled. The same version downloaded
from the Blender.org intead has the algorithm enabled during the compilation.
Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
2.81.16
How reproducible:
Is reproducible every time.
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install blender 2.81.16 from the fedora 31 repository
2. Open blender and go into the Compositing tab.
3. Enable the flag "Use nodes" and try to add a "denoise" node.
4. The node contain the error: " Disabled, built without OpenImageDenoise"
5. If you try to use it anyway the render became all black.
Actual results:
The node show the error: " Disabled, built without OpenImageDenoise"
Expected results:
The node doesn't show any error and the algorithm will be used to successfully
denoise a render.
Additional info:
The version that is currently available to download from Blender.org (that is
the same version of the repo, 2.81.16) use the denoiser without any problem.
I've tried with and without the additional OIDN package provided in the fedora
repo, but even after a reboot blender show the error.
This if i understand correctly can be solved by recompiling blender with
OpenImageDenoise flag enabled. (But i'm not sure of this).

Please keep in mind that with any upstream change, there may also be packaging
changes that need to be made. Specifically, please remember that it is your
responsibility to review the new version to ensure that the licensing is still
correct and that no non-free or legally problematic items have been added
upstream.

--- Comment #2 from Luya Tshimbalanga <luya_tfz(a)thefinalzone.net> ---
Hello James,
I confirm the reported issues. After some investigations, it turned out
upstream has been inactive for a long time which explains the lack of update to
support latest Gimp release.
I also learned the existence of gimphelp.org website with gimp-scripts from
which gimpfx-foundry was based which includes all scripts ready for the next
Gimp 3.x release.
The downside is lesser scripts available compared to gimpfx-foundry as some of
them are already part of official Gimp.
I may package gimp-scripts and will keep gimpfx-foundry for some times.

Hi James,
from my point of view, this looks more like gimpfx-foundry issue.
gimpfx-foundry was written for GIMP in version 2.6. In Fedora 31, we have GIMP
in version 2.10.
Due of gimpfx-foundry is 3rd party script, it's up to them to keep their code
compatible with official GIMP stable release.
Because of it, I am moving this bug report to gimpfx-foundry component.
