Bug ID: 1738968
Summary: gimp-layer-via-copy-cut depends on Python 2
Product: Fedora
Version: rawhide
Status: NEW
Component: gimp-layer-via-copy-cut
Assignee: luya_tfz(a)thefinalzone.net
Reporter: lbalhar(a)redhat.com
QA Contact: extras-qa(a)fedoraproject.org
CC: design-devel(a)lists.fedoraproject.org,
luya_tfz(a)thefinalzone.net
Blocks: 1698500 (F31_PY2REMOVAL)
Target Milestone: ---
Classification: Fedora
Python 2.7 will reach end-of-life in January 2020, over 9 years after it was
released. This falls within the Fedora 31 lifetime.
Packages that depend on Python 2 are being switched to Python 3 or removed from
Fedora:
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Changes/F31_Mass_Python_2_Package_Removal#In…
Python 2 will be retired in Fedora 32:
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Changes/RetirePython2
To help planning, we'd like to know the plans for gimp-layer-via-copy-cut's
future. Specifically:
- What is the reason for the Python2 dependency? (Is it software written in
Python, or does it just provide Python bindings, or use Python in the build
system or test runner?)
- What are the upstream/community plans/timelines regarding Python 3?
- What is the guidance for porting to Python 3? (Assuming that there is someone
who generally knows how to port to Python 3, but doesn't know anything about
the particular package, what are the next steps to take?)
This bug is filed semi-automatically, and might not have all the context
specific to gimp-layer-via-copy-cut.
If you need anything from us, or something is unclear, please mention it here.
Thank you.

With Intel Level Zero now available in the Fedora repositories, I think the
version of Blender shipped with Fedora should be compiled with Cycles oneAPI
support for Intel GPUs enabled, currently only CUDA and HIP are enabled

f24-backgrounds-extras-xfce-24.1.2-14.fc38.noarch.rpm is an upgrade to
f24-backgrounds-extras-xfce-24.1.2-13.fc37.noarch.rpm .
Since these files are only images, why are they fc38 release specific?
My expectations is that they are the same since fc24.
Imagine having all backgrounds available for previous releases installed. This
adds several gigabytes (maybe) of data to be :
- downloaded
- removed from storage
- added to storage.
This is pointless if the data remained the same.
Please clarify if my understanding is correct and what is the reason behind
'upgrading' these packages.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. dnf --releasever=$NEXTVER upgrade f\*
2.
3.
Actual Results:
files are replaced even if they have not been changed.
Expected Results:
files are left alone unless they have changed.
Of course ,same rationale may apply to any other file on the file system.
