Classification: Fedora
This is a bug that was fixed in Arch in Blender 4.1.1
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Select an object with volume (i.e. default cube) by clicking on it.
2. In the properties panel on the right, go to "Physics" tab for the object.
3. Click "Fluid" to add this type of physics.
4. In the newly opening "Fluid" dropdown below, select "Type" as "Domain".
Crash.
Actual Results:
Blender crashes.
Expected Results:
Blender not crash.
Upstream insists that this is a packaging issue and refuses to fix it.

Bug ID: 2324831
Summary: *have patch* blender crashes when attempting to use
fluid, due to python 3.12
Product: Fedora
Version: 39
OS: Linux
Status: NEW
Component: blender
Severity: high

Target Milestone: ---
Classification: Fedora
Patch at:
https://gitlab.archlinux.org/archlinux/packaging/packages/blender/-/blob/44…
was tested and works. Just modified the spec and recompiled the source rpm at
https://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/buildinfo?buildID=2575769
and installed the resulting rpm.
I'm using fedora 39, but I believe this affects more recent releases too.
===
Bug is that Python 3.12 seems to have introduced stricter checking for
PyImport_AppendInittab() and when attempting to use fluids in blender, it
immediately crashes with:
Fatal Python error: PyImport_AppendInittab: PyImport_AppendInittab() may not be
called after Py_Initialize()
Python runtime state: initialized
Applying the patch above fixes the problem. Hope that helps
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Run blender 4
2. Attempt to use fluids (eg: Object > Quick Effects > Quick Liquid)
3. Crash
