Summary: gimp-layer-via-copy-cut depends on Python 2

Blocks: 1698500 (F31_PY2REMOVAL)
Target Milestone: ---
Classification: Fedora
Python 2.7 will reach end-of-life in January 2020, over 9 years after it was
released. This falls within the Fedora 31 lifetime.
Packages that depend on Python 2 are being switched to Python 3 or removed from
Fedora:
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Changes/F31_Mass_Python_2_Package_Removal#In…
Python 2 will be retired in Fedora 32:
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Changes/RetirePython2
To help planning, we'd like to know the plans for gimp-layer-via-copy-cut's
future. Specifically:
- What is the reason for the Python2 dependency? (Is it software written in
Python, or does it just provide Python bindings, or use Python in the build
system or test runner?)
- What are the upstream/community plans/timelines regarding Python 3?
- What is the guidance for porting to Python 3? (Assuming that there is someone
who generally knows how to port to Python 3, but doesn't know anything about
the particular package, what are the next steps to take?)
This bug is filed semi-automatically, and might not have all the context
specific to gimp-layer-via-copy-cut.
If you need anything from us, or something is unclear, please mention it here.
Thank you.

Hello,
I've been trying to run Blender rendering on GPU. I tried couple of weeks ago
on Fedora 38 and today after fresh upgrade to Fedora 39. I've installed Blender
from repositories. After intalling `rocm-hip` package the GPU becomes listed as
available in Blender GPU rendering properties. It. Crashes. Every. Single.
Time.
Now, the interesting part is: If I run Blender via `distrobox` (installed in an
Arch Linux container) it all works beautifully! Here's the link to a
hack/workaround:
https://www.reddit.com/r/Fedora/comments/11qh9j3/getting_bender_hip_to_work/
Is `rocm-hip` in Fedora not the equivalent of `hip-runtime-amd` from Arch? Is
there a way of getting GPU rendering in Blender on Fedora with Mesa drivers and
HIP? Because as proved - it does work on this hardware + mesa + blender
Blender from F39 repo: 3.6.4
Blender in Arch container: 3.6.5
I've tried also installing Blender 3.6.5 from Rawhide but same exact thing
happens - Blender crashing
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. dnf install blender rocm-hip
2. Open up Blender, go to Edit -> Preferences -> System -> Cycles rendering
devices -> HIP, Radeon RDNA2 GPU ticked
3. Close it. Go to Render properties on the right bottom pane, select Render
engine: Cycles, Feature set: Supported, Device: GPU Compute, press F12
4. Press F12 and Blender will crash right away. If you're unlucky it'll crash
at step 2
Actual Results:
Blender crash
Expected Results:
Blender doesn't crash

It looks like HIP support doesn't work in blender in the current testing
version of blender
(https://bodhi.fedoraproject.org/updates/FEDORA-2024-45862e3ed9) Is it
possible that it needs that package in the spec as a recommended package?
Seems a bit odd that it requires a devel package though.
Reproducible: Always

f24-backgrounds-extras-xfce-24.1.2-14.fc38.noarch.rpm is an upgrade to
f24-backgrounds-extras-xfce-24.1.2-13.fc37.noarch.rpm .
Since these files are only images, why are they fc38 release specific?
My expectations is that they are the same since fc24.
Imagine having all backgrounds available for previous releases installed. This
adds several gigabytes (maybe) of data to be :
- downloaded
- removed from storage
- added to storage.
This is pointless if the data remained the same.
Please clarify if my understanding is correct and what is the reason behind
'upgrading' these packages.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. dnf --releasever=$NEXTVER upgrade f\*
2.
3.
Actual Results:
files are replaced even if they have not been changed.
Expected Results:
files are left alone unless they have changed.
Of course ,same rationale may apply to any other file on the file system.

Bug ID: 2259368
Summary: blender package has no content in the blender man page
Product: Fedora
Version: 39
Hardware: x86_64
OS: Linux
Status: NEW
Component: blender
Keywords: Documentation
Severity: medium

negativo17(a)gmail.com
Target Milestone: ---
Classification: Fedora
The 'blender' package blender-4.0.2-1.fc39.x86_64 was installed and the man
page was attempted to be read:
$ man blender
Manual page blender(1) byte 0/0 (END) (press h for help or q to quit)
but the man page was empty. The package was checked and it was apparent the
package man page is empty:
$ rpm -qlv blender | grep /man/
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 20 Dec 9 19:00
/usr/share/man/man1/blender.1.gz
The -qlv shows the man page is 20 bytes which is the size of an 0 byte file
that's been gzipped. Directly checking by ungzipping to stdout also showed
it's empty:
$ gzip -dc /usr/share/man/man1/blender.1.gz | wc -c
0
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install blender rpm package for 4.0.2-1.fc39
2. run "man blender"
Actual Results:
Man page for blender has no contents
Expected Results:
Packages should not include empty man pages or 'blender' man page should have
the usual type of content expected in man pages like instructions on usage and
so on.
Either not included the blender.1.gz file at all if there's no such manual file
or included related Blender content in the file.
