Bug ID: 2397145 Summary: Blender menus are grayed out under Fedora Workstation 43 Product: Fedora Version: 43 Hardware: x86_64 OS: Linux Status: NEW Component: blender Keywords: Desktop Severity: high Assignee: luya_tfz@thefinalzone.net Reporter: qd_linux5_kvm@yahoo.co.jp QA Contact: extras-qa@fedoraproject.org CC: code@musicinmybrain.net, design-devel@lists.fedoraproject.org, epel-packagers-sig@lists.fedoraproject.org, kwizart@gmail.com, luya_tfz@thefinalzone.net, negativo17@gmail.com Target Milestone: --- Classification: Fedora
When running Blender on Fedora Workstation 43(GNOME, Wayland), the Preferences window does not open and all menus starting from the File menu are grayed out.
I test flatpak(flathub), occur the issue too. So the issue is not rpm-specific. On Fluxbox(host) and Fedora KDE Edition(gnome-boxes), the menus work correctly.
This suggests the problem is related to the GNOME Wayland session rather than Blender itself.
Version-Release number of selected component:
blender-4.5.3-1.fc43.x86_64 xdg-desktop-portal-gnome-49.0-1.fc43.x86_64 xdg-desktop-portal-gtk-1.15.3-2.fc43.x86_64 xdg-desktop-portal-1.20.3-2.fc43.x86_64
Some Environments are in Additional Information
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce: 1.Install Blender from Fedora RPM packages or Install blender from flatpak install com.blender.Blender 2.Run Blender 3.Try to open Preferences or any menu starting from the File menu. Actual Results: The Preferences window does not open. All menus starting from the File menu are grayed out.
Expected Results: The Preferences window should open normally. Menus should be accessible as expected.
Additional Information: Test Environments
Host: NVIDIA driver - Fedora Workstation 43 - Fedora Workstation 42 - Fluxbox window manager
gnome-boxes guests (virtio display): - Fedora Workstation 43 - Fedora Workstation 42 - Fedora KDE Edition 43
Environments where menus are grayed out:

- gnome-boxes guest: Fedora Workstation 43
Environments where menus are not grayed out:
- Host: Fluxbox - Host and gnome-boxes: Fedora Workstation 42 - gnome-boxes guest: Fedora KDE Edition 43
xdg-desktop-portal warnings (shown in all environments):
/usr/libexec/xdg-desktop-portal[1861]: Realtime error : Could not get pidns for pid XXXX: Could not fstatat ns/pid: Not a directory
EGL errors:

libEGL warning: egl: failed to create dri2 screen EGL Error (0x3009): EGL_BAD_MATCH: Arguments are inconsistent
Despite EGL errors, KDE Edition and Fedora 42 guests do not show the grayed-out behavior.
- Fedora 43 Workstation host: no EGL error, but menus are grayed out. - Fedora 43 Workstation gnome-boxes guest: EGL error occurs and menus are grayed out.

--- Comment #1 from Luya Tshimbalanga luya_tfz@thefinalzone.net --- It seems like an issue with Gnome Wayland running on NVidia driver. Can you file the bug upstream on GNOME Shell?

--- Comment #2 from Atsushi qd_linux5_kvm@yahoo.co.jp --- Thanks for your message. This bug has both NVIDIA proprietry driver and nouveau driver. In the case, Shoud I file the bug upstream on GNOME Shell?
