So Sijis converted it to the 960.gs grid we've been looking at using for
the upcoming new www.fpo :

One idea, maybe to add some place for folks looking for a
locale-specific set of pages about Fedora that's not hosted there.... is
there a specific central place that lists something like that?

I think the mock-up looks really good (love the graphic and I see
you've also used it in the footer of other mock-ups, sweet :) ). Is it
necessary to have screenshots of the pages though? Maybe flags would
be less trouble + take up less space + be clearer.

I'd knock something up but am not on my main machine right now. I'd
love to help you guys though!

Maybe we could have some templates so the locale specific maintainers
don't have to think about design, but only about content?

Hmmm... flags could be used here since this is not about languages, but 
about countries/local communities. And we won't have the problem with 
one country unhappy with the presence of another country flag (ahem... 
China, Taiwan, whatever) since this in not shippable software but a 
website hosted in the USA.

Your mockup really looks great! However, I do think we really have to be
careful about using flags though. E.g. if a Chinese user sees a
Taiwanese flag, they may not take it the right way or vice-versa.
Seriously. See the amount of discussion the issue generated about the
usage of flags on wikipedia:

Nicu, I'm not sure about your point on the website being hosted in the
USA? Wherever the site is hosted, if a flag is handled with a lack of
sensitivity to some issue we may not even be aware of, it can still be
seen by the potentially-offended parties, no? (Even China could block
our site yet still there would be the possibility of upsetting some
other nation?)

I'll bring this issue up with the board and see what they think. I think
your mockup will be of help in the discussion, Jef!
