We are currently writing a prospectus to obtain sponsors for the FUDCon in
Tempe, Arizona.
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/FUDCon:Tempe_2011_prospectus
We'd like to put the information in a Fedora-branded office document so
that we can have nice .pdfs to send / print out to prospective sponsors.
Would it be possible to get a Fedora OO Document template? :) Not just for
this particular use, but more of a long-term use.
(PS. Not to set things on fire, but we're hoping to procure sponsors
fairly quickly - the faster we get them, the faster we can get all the
details in place for FUDCon!)

#56: Request for multimedia icons
-------------------------+--------------------------------------------------
Reporter: oget | Owner:
Type: icon request | Status: new
Priority: major | Milestone: milestone1
Version: | Keywords:
-------------------------+--------------------------------------------------
Now that the [http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Features/FedoraStudio
FedoraStudio feature] is [https://fedorahosted.org/fesco/ticket/191
accepted by FESCo] we are in need of new icons.
The Audio&Video/Multimedia desktop menu is being categorized. For each
submenu entry we are requesting new icons. Some are pretty
straightforward, whereas some are more left to imagination.
Currently for the [http://oget.fedorapeople.org/multimedia-menus/ test
package], I borrowed icons from other projects. I will replace these icons
with the ones produced here.
Here is a list of what we need and some explanation:
* Capture&Import icon: This is a general group of applications for
capturing/importing all sorts of media: Audio streams, Video streams,
sound recording with a mic, ripping CD's DVD's, TV broadcasts...
* Creation icon: An icon for the top menu which will contain other media
creation applications listed below. Very open to imagination :)
* Digital processing icon: This group contains audio/video effect
applications. Synthesizer applications. An idea for the icon would be a
foot pedal musicians use (like a distortion pedal).
* Editors icon: Audio editors, video editors, soundfont editors...
Basically, applications that can be use existing data to create some
output.
* Jack icon: JACK (Jack Audio Connection Kit) using applications. These
are wide range applications, primarily used for audio creation. An audio
jack connector (like the one you plug into the electric guitar) is an idea
for the icon.
* MIDI icon: MIDI using applications. Again wide range, but a MIDI
keyboard sounds like an idea.
* Sequencer/Multitrack recorder icon: An icon for the group of multitrack
sequencers, digital audio workstations.
* Notation icon: Icon for the group of musical notation applications.
* Mixer icon: Group of software mixers. Like pulseaudio control, kmix,
gnome mixer...
* Output generation icon: Very wide range and quite open to imagination.
The applications that are covered by this group are audio/video streamers,
format changers, CD/DVD burners, subtitle editors. In terms of
functionality, this one is kind of opposite to the "Capture&Import" group.
* Tools icon: Helper applications that usually do not do anything with
multimedia data. Such as instrument tuner, metronome...
* Player icon: An icon for audio/video players group.
This makes 12 icons. I know it is a long list but is there a chance we can
have these by F-12?
Very many thanks!

#45: packaging process visual representation
--------------------+-------------------------------------------------------
Reporter: dtimms | Owner:
Type: task | Status: new
Priority: trivial | Milestone:
Version: | Keywords:
--------------------+-------------------------------------------------------
It would be nice to have some graphics built that represent a simplified
overview of some complex fedora tasks to take the eye sting away from
pages of text processes. An idea for the packaging process perhaps:
- think of an oval football ground, where the viewer is standing at near
the foci of one end. She sees a path curving from past left extent of
vision, around to the right extent of vision. The viewpoint should be
above the ground, and the perspective should be apparent.
The breakdown is shown as graphical items rising out of the path, perhaps
with additional arrows to indicate flow of additional tasks / information:
{{{
- choose a software project
- start a template spec file
- gathering information
- understanding packaging guidelines
- configure local rpmbuild
- local build
- local rpmlint
- local package test (iteration over last few items)
- create package review bug
- - paths of new packagers taking tentative steps
- - paths of existing packagers indicating review of spec
- respond / improve package based on comments, iteration (circle)
- performing semi/reviews of other packages
- community approval of package
- cvs request / import
- build request (to successful build) iteration
- update system requests
- published package
- - bugs / feedback / updates iteration
}}}
Try to indicate the communication and community involvement during the
stages.
I have no idea how you would represent in nice graphic form any of those
items.
An image that fits into say 800x 600 (active content area for a 1024x768
display) could be a useful size, but might be too small for definition of
any step icons to be usable.
? Can the wiki provide imagemap like links that could jump to the specific
task detailed descriptions.

THIS TICKET CANNOT BE COMPLETE WITHOUT TICKET 138 BEING COMPLETE.
For this task, we'd like you to look up the emails for each Fedora Planet
poster on the 'don't follow the guidelines hackergotchi' list from ticket
#138. A good tool to do this is Fedora Community: visit
http://admin.fedoraproject.org/community, sign in with your FAS account,
and search for the users there to get their email addresses.
Once you have the email addresses for each Fedora Planet user with a
hackergotchi that doesn't follow the guidelines, we'd like you to send an
email message to all of them letting them know:
* The Fedora Design team noticed that their hackergotchi on Planet Fedora
does not really match the other hackergotchi. While they are free to use
whatever hackergotchi they like, we thought they might be interested in
some design help on their hackergotchi and would like to offer it to them.
* If any of them want to know why their specific hackergotchi was felt to
not meet the guidelines, they can post a comment to ticket 138 asking
about their hackergotchi - they should post a link to their hackergotchi
photo when doing so.
* The Fedora Design team runs a service whereby Fedora contributors may
request that a hackergotchi is designed for them.
* If they would like to request that a hackergotchi be created for them,
they should file a request at https://fedorahosted.org/design-
team/newticket, selecting 'hackergotchi request' as the type at the top of
the ticket.
* They should also attach a photo of themselves to the ticket that we can
use to make the hackergotchi. Nicu will be writing a blog post on what
types of photos work best, so you can refer to that blog post when it's
done.
* Let them know that once they have received their hackergotchi, the
instructions to start using it on planet are available here:
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Planet#How_to_join_the_Planet

#90: no way to cleanly associate images with articles in insight - using ugly
hack

Reporter: mchua | Owner: duffy
Type: task | Status: new
Priority: major | Component: HTML/CSS Work
Severity: Long-Term / Complex Issue | Keywords: insight
--------------------------------------+-------------------------------------
from mizmo, formerly at https://fedorahosted.org/marketing-team/ticket/52
(see discussion there)
afaik the way zikula is currently configured there is no way to cleanly
associate images with articles in insight. i'll try to break this down
clearly:
* our zikula instance currently does not allow for uploading and
hosting images. so you need to upload your images and host them from
somewhere external to zikula.
* when people see images they are interested in on the front page of
insight, they are going to want to be able to click the image to zoom in
on it. right now that isn't possible without handwritten html. you need to
upload a thumb version and a full size version of the image externally,
then wrap the img tag of the thumb with a link tag to point out to the
full size image. and that is hacky.
* the mechanism for displaying images on the front page is extremely
fragile. you need to put the img tag for the article as the VERY FIRST
thing in the 'lead page teaser' field of the article. if you dont it can
mess up how it comes out looking. also, you CANNOT add an img tag in the
'lead page teaser' field of an article that is in the 'featured stories'
area to the left of mmcgrath's picture on the top - it will blow
everything up.

from mizmo: right now to display images for the fedora insight zikula
skin, images need to be statically-linked. this means before the site goes
live, all those static links need to be updated to not point to
publictest6...
This ticket is only relevant if FI is in staging; ask in #fedora-admin to
find out if it is and where the static links need to be re-pointed to (and
please add notes to comments in this ticket if you find out anything).
Formerly in the mktg queue, https://fedorahosted.org/marketing-
team/ticket/58.
Note that this is a quick short-term hack to unblock FI for deployment,
but implies a desired (and more involved) long-term fix (which does not
immediately block the first deployment of FI). We'd like to find a way to
not have to use static links, because otherwise long-term maintenance will
drive us insane.

#69: Make upgrades easier from install DVD (f13 timeframe maybe)

Type: mockup request | Status: new
Priority: major | Component: Interaction Design / Usability
Severity: Moderately Involved | Keywords:

contact: Will Woods
preupgrade is great for upgrading but it requires internet access. if you
have access to a DVD you should be able to upgrade too. we need a ui
design for an app to handle this.
<mizmo> wwoods: e.g., upgrading your system thru anaconda is SCARY
<mizmo> wwoods: because there's a lot of knobs you can turn to destroy
things
<mizmo> wwoods: but preupgrade is only used for upgrading, so i think it's
less scary
<wwoods> in my opinion the generate-kickstart bits of preupgrade oughtta
be on the DVD somewhere
<wwoods> such that you can pop in the DVD and launch.. something
<mizmo> wwoods: yeh! what might be nice is you pop in the dvd, and it asks
if you want to install or upgrade, you pick upgrade and it works similar
to preupgrade where u dont have to go thru anaconda's ui at all
<wwoods> that's trivial if the first stage runs on the system you're
trying to upgrade - we write a little note that says "HEY ANACONDA UPGRADE
THIS ONE"
<wwoods> IIRC that's really the only choice you need to make during
upgrade
<wwoods> probably there's three cases:
<wwoods> 1) no Fedora installed anywhere we can see. skip upgrade screen.
<wwoods> 2) exactly one Fedora install. Present "We're gonna upgrade this:
..." with a "No, I want to wipe and reinstall" button
<wwoods> 3) More than one. Same as 2), but with a "which system do you
wanna upgrade" dropdown.
<wwoods> honestly it would be really, really simple to have a "Launch
upgrade" helper app on the DVD
<wwoods> so when you insert the DVD a nautilus window is gonna pop up and
it'll have a bunch of things and one "Install Fedora" item
<wwoods> etc. wouldn't be hard but alas I don't have much (any) time for
preupgrade lately
<wwoods> buuut if you can help with some proposed UI / workflow stuff I
can get some tickets filed and roadmap it out
<wwoods> and hopefully I can find people who do have time

https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Bugzilla_Desktop_Client
We are looking to write a client from scratch or modify the bug buddy
client to suit our needs. The target audience is primarily end users who
want to interactively report a bug (Excluding crashes etc detected by bug
buddy or abrt) on a system that is facing the problem.
Most of the bugs are against a top few components (kernel, firefox, yum
etc) and it is not reasonable to expect users to necessarily understand
the exact component (only source packages are listed in bugzilla). We can
collect the logs, hardware details etc and be more intelligent because it
is a desktop client. The challenge is to make the process very simple
while leaving enough room for other more expert users to report a bug as
well. We want the ability to report the bug against a specific component
if the user understands the details but the application itself is oriented
towards non technical users.

Slim aims to be very small, so keeping any themed background package small

So you might have heard about ...
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Summer_Coding_2010
Being a whole new program for us, I thought it deserved a new, non-GSoC-
specific ticket. :)
Ideas that have come up so far:
* summercoding.fedoraproject.org -- static go-to site, using current fp.o
design and templates and framework.
* Posters to put up around schools.
* A logo?
I'll go the list to see if there is actual interest in this, but thought
I'd file a ticket first to refer to.
If there is interest, we'll make this the master ticket (as a task), and
I'll file separate tickets for the logos, website help, etc. That sound
right?

Reporter: rlandmann | Owner: duffy
Type: task | Status: new

Severity: Quick & Easy | Keywords:

Publican (the XML publishing tool used by the docs team) includes a small
logo and hyperlink at the top right corner of the pages it builds in HTML.
The hyperlink points to the documentation team responsible for the doc (in
the case of Fedora docs, the Fedora Documentation Project), plus that
team's logo.
No logo for the Fedora docs team actually exists, so on all our Publican
docs, we just get a "Made with Publican" logo instead. You can see an
example here:
http://docs.fedoraproject.org/release-notes/f11/en-US/
Something actually relevant to Fedora, documentation, or Fedora
documentation would be much better :)
