#69: Make upgrades easier from install DVD (f13 timeframe maybe) --------------------------------+------------------------------------------- Reporter: duffy | Owner: duffy Type: mockup request | Status: new Priority: major | Component: Interaction Design / Usability Severity: Moderately Involved | Keywords: --------------------------------+------------------------------------------- contact: Will Woods preupgrade is great for upgrading but it requires internet access. if you have access to a DVD you should be able to upgrade too. we need a ui design for an app to handle this. <mizmo> wwoods: e.g., upgrading your system thru anaconda is SCARY <mizmo> wwoods: because there's a lot of knobs you can turn to destroy things <mizmo> wwoods: but preupgrade is only used for upgrading, so i think it's less scary <wwoods> in my opinion the generate-kickstart bits of preupgrade oughtta be on the DVD somewhere <wwoods> such that you can pop in the DVD and launch.. something <mizmo> wwoods: yeh! what might be nice is you pop in the dvd, and it asks if you want to install or upgrade, you pick upgrade and it works similar to preupgrade where u dont have to go thru anaconda's ui at all <wwoods> that's trivial if the first stage runs on the system you're trying to upgrade - we write a little note that says "HEY ANACONDA UPGRADE THIS ONE" <wwoods> IIRC that's really the only choice you need to make during upgrade <wwoods> probably there's three cases: <wwoods> 1) no Fedora installed anywhere we can see. skip upgrade screen. <wwoods> 2) exactly one Fedora install. Present "We're gonna upgrade this: ..." with a "No, I want to wipe and reinstall" button <wwoods> 3) More than one. Same as 2), but with a "which system do you wanna upgrade" dropdown. <wwoods> honestly it would be really, really simple to have a "Launch upgrade" helper app on the DVD <wwoods> so when you insert the DVD a nautilus window is gonna pop up and it'll have a bunch of things and one "Install Fedora" item <wwoods> etc. wouldn't be hard but alas I don't have much (any) time for preupgrade lately <wwoods> buuut if you can help with some proposed UI / workflow stuff I can get some tickets filed and roadmap it out <wwoods> and hopefully I can find people who do have time -- Ticket URL: <https://fedorahosted.org/design-team/ticket/69> Design Team <http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Design> Fedora Design Team

It's an alternative to NetworkManager's OpenVPN plug-in. gopenvpn has a lot of features which makes its usage more appropriate for advanced users. OpenVPN is an open source VPN implementation, providing secure and encrypted connections between computers and networks. I've recently taken over the maintenance and development of gopenvpn, and I see the icons need a refresh. Currently only the system-tray icons are present, which are tiny. Could probably also need a proper application icon as well. Idea is to take the famous "I love NY" label and to redraw it in the form "I love SELinux" with Fedora logo inside. First of all there are probably two legal questions since Fedora logo and "I love NY" logo both are trademarked(?). And unfortunately I have no idea how these questions should or could be solved. And second, I am not a designer of any kind. So I am asking if anyone finds this idea worth his time.
