#199: CSS and logo for Ask Fedora

Ask Fedora is a community edited knowledge base, a forum oriented towards
just questions and answers. A test instance is running at
http://ask01.dev.fedoraproject.org:8888/questions/
Upstream css file is at
http://fpaste.org/FdSm/raw/
If anyone is interested, let me know and I can make you a admin for the
test instance and you can experiment with the css via the admin settings
which allows for a custom css file which overrides parts of the default
css file as necessary.
A logo would also be nice since we want to promote this site without the
restrictions associated with the Fedora logo

Hi,
I've been working on a small website which I aim to call "This week in
Fedora". The idea being to visualize what community members are doing
using fedmsg and datagrepper as source of information.
Current version can be found at:
http://ambre.pingoured.fr/thisweekinfedora/
It could use a little more Fedora theme as you can see, so if someone has
ideas please let me know.
Thanks

I would like to ask for a new icon for system-config-services application
to replace old Bluecurve one [1] with an icon better fitting desktop and
current standards. It could re-use icons from gnome-icon-theme, like we
did with anaconda. Program's author is aware of this request [2].

Hey,
we need a European edition of Free Media envelope for the new tool by
FranciscoD.
http://dodoincfedora.wordpress.com/2012/02/16/fedora-freemedia-tool-
version-0-2alpha/
The problem with the current Templet is that it is too big "13.5 cm x 13.5
cm," but I need max. "12.5 cm x 12.5 cm". Otherwise I have to pay more
than 1.45 € for shipping.
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/File:Freemedia-mailer.svgz
I already talked to FranciscoD and he asked me to creat a new ticket.

On the package page of pkgdb2, we have links referring to the builds
(koji), updates (bodhi), sources (git), bugs (bugzilla) and a new one
pointing to the package review
http://209.132.184.188/package/guake/
As you see, we have small icons for each of them but the last one.
I would be great if we could manage to get an icon. I discussed it a while
ago with Máirín and we came up with the idea of some sort of todo list
with a magnifying glass on it, but I am of course open to other
suggestions.

Am requesting a logo for Singapore Ambassador use.
We have socialmedia handle as "fedora.sg", as well as domain name of
similar name.
".sg" is the TLD for Singapore.
Hence, we are looking at simple addition of ".sg" to the infinity design
logo, as it is clean and neat way to represent the activity done in
Singapore.

Hi,
I have been asked by the Fedora Board (https://fedorahosted.org/board-
private/ticket/189) to open a ticket to get input and guidance for a
sticker that ARM would like to create, aimed for Flock in August.
The intention is that these sticker would be provided at Flock as well as
other events. The original design is attached as well as the source file.
I have also attached an alternative colour scheme that we are using for
stickers. ARM is trying to stick to the two styles. The Board are not
overly happy with the phraseology used, I am investigating what else can
be used.

Hi,
Me, and my friend Onuralp Sezer (Thunderbirdtr) decided to make an package
that simply allows to the users to start and launch our/not our services
from gnome shell. This rpm will be nothing more just the same as the
apps.fpo, just as a categriozed list website starter and icons. The
problem were there that not all service had icons in the launcher, nor in
the source of the apps.fedoraproject.org. So, I have took my drawing
skills, and tried the best, and draw some 48x48 sized standard svg icons
with inkscape, and I would like to ask review if possible. Where I have
seen official icon, but no svg, I have kept the original, otherwise, I
have designed new ones where there was none, hopefully I didn't step
anyone toes.
Please pick them for review. Thx.

We are planning to make two generic standee banners for Fedora to carry to
events around the country. The size is 6.5 feet x 3.5 feet. I couldn't
find any artwork to put on these banners. Could someone please come up
with a couple of mockups that I can give the vendor?
The themes I have in mind are:
1. Fedora logo with "Freedom. Friends. Features. First." and links to
fedoraproject.org/wiki/Join and fedoraproject.org
2. A "Join Fedora" banner with the logo and six category icons in the
[https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Join join wiki page] along with a text
link to the page at the bottom. The icons could have links below them or
QR codes that one could scan to go to the links.
I'm completely open to other ideas; it's the first time I'm thinking about
banners :)

#281: Fedora presentation template in screen 16:9 and 16:10 formats

The beautiful standard Fedora presentation template located here is only
available in 4:3 screen format:
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Presentations/Template
However, all laptops and projectors nowaday support 16:9 or 16:10 format,
and have done so for many years. Most do it natively. We could make
great use of that extra screen space in presentations if we had templates
for 16:9 and 16:10.
I'm calling this "Moderately Involved" severity because I have no idea how
much alignment work would be needed here -- it might be quite easy! The
priority is clearly "minor" because, well, no one's complained yet in 5
years. :-)

Hi,
We were discussing how we can ease the process for people that are looking
to join the Fedora community. http://whatcanidoformozilla.org/ looks
pretty awesome. Could folks from the design team take a look at it and
suggest modifications to it so we can have a similar instance up for
Fedora?
I'm not just asking for theme changes: we could change the entire work
flow really. For example, the mozilla site simply takes you to
documentation once it's found the area you fit in. For Fedora though, we'd
like to extend it so that it also helps the person get aboard. So, it
could walk people through things like:
- signing up for an FAS account
- applying to an FAS group
- subscribing to the concerned mailing lists and introducing themselves
(hyperkitty!)
- getting on to the IRC channel
- MORE?
I've forked the source code already:

Thanks! :)

Like #306, but specifically to promote the magazine.
Requirements are:
* The image that you create must be 220 x 250 pixels
* Must be hosted through our standard image uploader (imgur)
* Must be GIF or PNG
* No animated GIFs
* Absolute limit on file size of 150 KB
For this, I think the Fedora Magazine logo (http://fedoramagazine.org/wp-
content/themes/ar2-d57c18d/images/logo.png) is a good, obvious start, but
I think it'd be nice to also have a few words explaining why one might
care. (And we need words for the tagline to be shown on mouseover, too.) I
cc'd the Fedora Marketing list for help with that.
I cc'd the marketing list for ideas on that.

There is an idea of a Talking points, which are short versions of the
Feature Announcments or Release Notes, suitable for Ambassadors.
See the link here:
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Fedora_19_talking_points
Explanation here:
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Talking_points_SOP?rd=Talking_Points_SOP
And discussion there:
http://lists.fedoraproject.org/pipermail/marketing/2013-March/014903.html
I think it could be great to easily produce short and catchy flyers with
this information.
Some thoughts on implementation:
* it should be a template, not a one-time thing
Idealy we shoud be able to just take random text in this form
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Template:Talking_points
then run some script and create a ready-to-print flyer. Thus it would be
easy to translate them or fill with some additional info.
Is it possible? Could we just create a latex file and fill it with text?
* it is release-oriented, thus we probably need a place for the release
banner
But other then that I would vote for more text and less pictures, since
content is important here.
* I see it as a flyer, thing to giveaway. But maybe we need a bigger
poster-size design as well?

it would be great if we could have a few "generic" (non release-specific)

promote Fedora on facebook. Dimensions should be 851x315 as far as I am
aware, however submitting banners of higher resolutions should still be
acceptable. :)
Many thanks!

Fedora has an official grayscale logo. There are no particular guidelines
for when it should be used — obviously if color is not available, but
presumably it may also be used in cases where color is not desirable
(perhaps distracting or unbalancing).
The current grayscale logo is dark on white. In some circumstances — a
user interface with a black background, for example — it would be nice to
have a variant designed to be gray and white on black.
Is this possible, or should the logo be bordered in white, and if so, what
are the guidelines for that white?
