Comment (by fleite):
I know it's a bit late in the process, but I was thinking about adding
some ideas here.
Maybe it would be interesting to work on a concept that is considered
secure "from the ground up", or that is widely recognized as having
security by design instead of as an aferthought. I'm trying to be more
creative than suggesting a fort or castle and failing, but maybe that is a
general direction worth pursuing.
A lock, or a shield, for example, are objects that are used after the fact
to protect something that is valuable and/or fragile. So using a lock or a
shield, in a way, hints at security being added afterwards, and not built-
in to the design of the thing.
We likely want to express that the Fedora Security Team works to design
security into the OS, with protection mechanisms enabled widely and deeply
throughout the system, instead of adding it afterwards.
Or maybe this is a bunch of nonsense, as I actually like the lock idea.
:-)
The lock itself is actually engineered to withstand attacks, so if we
think about the concept of the lock itself, it has security built into its
design. But does that then apply to Fedora as a whole? I guess this is the
point I was trying to make above.
