Another idea

(3) create a separate mark to apply to all spins, maybe a symbolic version
 of the old LP / record image with a Fedora (f) mark in the center. I don't
 like this idea though because there is nothing to ground such a mark -
 there isn't anywhere else we would use it, so nobody would recognize it
