Live-CD icon
by Onyeibo Oku
I like to be reminded that I have a Fedora Media mounted (either in
windows or in Fedora). I noticed that fedora media displays a generic
icon when mounted so I decided to create something (one each for CD and
USB).
Here is what I have so far:
http://fedoradesigns.twohotis.fastmail.fm/Fedora-Live-CD-logo-3d.svg
http://fedoradesigns.twohotis.fastmail.fm/Fedora-Live-CD-Logo-3d.png
I did a little borrowing from Nicu's website though (the 3d icon, that
is). My original concept was to make the logo appear as though its
emerging from the CD -- like a virtual 3d image coming alive from the
CD. I'm not quite there yet but I'd appreciate some appraisal/criticism
on the product (so far). It would be nice to have something generally
accepted ... something everyone can identify with.
Ok ... I'm off to test this on my Live-USB (will develop a variant for
USB later).

I think this is worth forwarding here, however I hope more people on the
team will support the conference by participating to i. But if you
can't, spreading the word is nice too.

10by10by10: Support LGM2010!
The Libre Graphics Meeting (LGM) is the annual working conference for
free software graphics application users and developers. The fifth
edition takes place 27-30 May 2010 in Brussels, Belgium. Teams from
GIMP, Inkscape, Blender, Krita, Scribus, Hugin, Open Font Library and
many other graphics projects gather to improve their software and
discuss new ideas for interoperability and shared standards.
http://www.libregraphicsmeeting.org
LGM2010 has launched a fundraising campaign called 10by10by10 to raise
$10,000 USD from grants, $10K from corporations and $10K from the
community. The funds raised from granting organizations, public, and
corporate partners will allow participants who have no other means of
sponsoring their travel to Brussels to attend the event.
Please contribute to the community campaign at:

Wallpaper for Alpha
by Nicu Buculei
As we are one day after the deadline and people are asking, I think we
*must* take a decision about what we are going with for Alpha. Remember,
Alpha is Alpha, we are not supposed to bring a final, perfectly polished
image, but to show the path we are following.
Based on the recent discussions, it looks to me like like the strongest
option is one of the "Rocket Trails":
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/F13_Artwork#Concepts.2C_WIP_Designs
I personally like better the color palette in "Rocket Trails 2", but I
can understand why some would prefer "Rocket Trails Colored".
Opinions?

Re: [Design-team] The cursor
by Hristo Petkov
Hi Guys,
Do you really think that the professional developers of Ubuntu and Microsoft for example have really the personal preferences they propose on the market.
It's all about the users and the striving to get as much of the market share as possible.
The underestimation of the competition and the users has never been be 'a good idea'.
Why don't you make a feasibility study to see that most of the users don't like to look professional - they are fond of 'lighting effects' and 'cool things'.
Yet there is a large share of people who want to look professional.
Maybe an option should be made to customise the desktop according to the personal preferences, thus the 'philosophy dispute' about the design image could be ended.
Have a nice day,
Regards

Since we haven't heard back, the Board's working group recommended
that the Board shelve this work for now. We'll proceed as best we can
in the meantime.

However, I wanted to recognize Mo Duffy for all the help she gave us
earlier on this project, and to say thank you. I know that she is
busy with a huge number of projects both inside and outside Fedora and
I'm grateful she's able to help out as much as she can.

trying a new cursor theme
by Matthias Clasen
As part of the ongoing theme renovations in the desktop spin, we would
like to try a new cursor theme for F13 to replace the aging Bluecurve
cursors.
After some looking around, we have found the DMZ theme by Jakub Steiner
to be a good candidate, since it is high-quality and conservative enough
to be suitable as a default cursor theme.
It is available now in the dmz-cursor-themes package. Please give it a
try and let me know what you think,
Matthias

Some more news on the Design Suite
by Sebastian Dziallas
Alright, sounds like a reasonable time for an update on the design
suite. From what I can see, we've the nightly snapshot builds working!
This is an awesome possibility for testing the images before they get
released, as those builds represent always the latest state. They are
available here:
http://alt.fedoraproject.org/pub/alt/nightly-composes/design-suite/
In other news, I'd like to slim the whole thing a little more down, as
we're reasonably close to a good size and Nicu also noted that we're
shipping duplicating apps quite some use-cases right now.
More news to come... ;)
