Re: [Design-team] The Paper
by Hristo Petkov
Hi,
Here is a proposal for a spaceship, operating on plasma jet engines (rear view) and two on-board generators (front view).
The blue rays represent the criogenic power supply to the generator, 'sucking in' the energy of the vacuum (by cooling it down to the absolute zero and taking off the 'heat' - Energy 1) (just don't ask me how).
The red rays are represnting the power supply of the light generator, turning the particles of the vacuum (the matter) into light (Energy 2). E = mc2
Energy 1 and Energy 2 when mixed up in the engine make self-igniting plasma jet fuel for driving the engines of the spaceship.

Hi,
By the way when reducing the contrast it becomes much better.
See the Attachment.

As I said, I don't think a wallpaper must represent a realistic approach. It must be usable and beatiful, and don't worry about gravitation, or other physics elements presents at real life.
Anyone was worried if a solar storm doesn't look as the Fedora 10 plymouth animation? I doubt it, beacuse it was beatiful and suitable for its purpose.
I agree with you on high contrast wallpapers, I don't like them either.

Hi,
This looks much more like avio-show or fireworks than rockets (and by the way the rockets 'travel' along the gradient (vertically) to overcome the gravitation).

I think all wallpapers suggested here are too dark. I have made a few modifications (I changed only the visibility of some layers, the combination mode, and the color of a black one) to Mairin rockets design, you can see it here:

i think it will look even more great if clouds should be added in such way that the rocket is passing through them.what u think?

AHAAA!
Rocket 9 (http://tatica.fedorapeople.org/Themes/rocket9.png) comes close
to what I had in mind. With the Varnishing point closer to the center
of the image and the rocket shifted to the right, its there! Lets have
some hazy hot fumes from the exhausts and a dirty (scratched) fedora
insignia on the chassis. Add stars and some asteriods -- not the busy
type -- at the background. Objects should become blurry or less visible
with increased distance from the viewing plane.
Icons will definitely stand out if the elements are faded appropriately
(towards the left)
I hope I'm making sense. Oh well, .... I see a nice picture coming. I
could help with the 3D but I'm new to Blender ... I'm more familiar with
MAX.

Hi,
too much light on the desktop background is not convenient for everyday work.

They are dark because they are realistic, the deep space *is* dark, like
this: http://www.nasa.gov/multimedia/imagegallery/iotd.html

Sure, we can go with a blue sky like this, the sky as viewed from earth
when the rockets are just launching off, but then we will have to drop
the stars, they are not visible during the day and maybe introduce some
cloud, as kanza suggested..

Default Wallpaper for Goddard F13
by Onyeibo Oku
I've been following the posts on this subject and here is what I am
thinking:
What if its an outer space scene with stars (having animated twinkles
... for the boot-up background image)? There would be asteriods and,
may be, one or two planets with 'our' rocket somewhere in the picture.
The scene would have a blueish hue to it. Its the kind of thing that is
best done with a 3D application like 'Blender' and rendered with V-Ray
or Yafray (and retouched in GIMP). I cannot help thinking about a
wallpaper I downloaded from CG-Arena ... just to help our imaginations
as I can't think of anything closer at the moment. My reference is a
bit busy but I hope it paints the right mental pictures.
See: http://fedoradesigns.twohotis.fastmail.fm/OuterSpace_Sample.jpg
I also see that we have limited time to agree on this based on
design-team Digest, Vol 9, Issue 32
