The Archive
by wonderer
Hy there,
for some time we all working on tasks where we reuse templates,
pictures, Textual templates, etc. for all kind of work. But there is no
place where we keep that collected work, that snippets of small peaces
that could be reused in other ways.
So, I had a small IRC talk with rbergeron and that gave a kick-off for
"the archive" page [1]. It can/should be a kind of overlapping Startpage
for Art/Design/photo/Textual/Marketing thingy.
The idea is to collect these pieces out there in one place to reuse them
for other work and not to invent the wheel new every time ;-)
One of the first big issues / goals / whatever could be to have some
kind of program-package installed on fedorahosted with maybe a small
local part to manage some kind of photobucket (e.g. like digikam).
Maybe you guys have some ideas or use already some kind of multiuser
Photo-managing tool with tools like we all know from flickr & Co. that
we could use for our own.
Maybe it is a stupid idea, but I would like to have some kind of event
photos from events Fedora people are on in a good quality (technical as
well as compositional) to put those on e.g. flyers, presentations,
Marketing Material, etc.
In this gallery there also can be screenshots from different Releases
also as from some general Programms we have in the distro over the years.
Also e.g. some Backgrounds for presentation-templates, etc.
I already posted a small Blogpost on how to make better event photos and
the resonance was pretty good on that [2] so my impression is that there
are more photographers are out that we can think of...
Yes, I also know of that pain-in-the-ass discussion about
model-contract, but hopefully that will come to an end soon. All I can
offer at that moment is a common TfP [3] contract I translated into
english and which is used in europe as far as I know and which I linked
on the archive page so far.
So, what you all think about that? Ideas? Also take a look at
#fedora-photo if you want.

Great catch! I'll pass that along to design so we become more aware of
things like this.
I haven't noticed it since I typically look at the site locally on my system.

I did notice that the Tour page was blank. I thought it was still in
progress. I found that the Tour page was replaced by
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/F13_one_page_release_notes. I reached
out to someone in Marketing and i got the details. In short, The Tour
was deprecated in favor of the previous link, since F12.

We really appreciate your suggestions, ideas and patches. I know you
sent a handful of patches a couple of weeks ago for the home page. I
apologize but i have not reviewed them, however, I have them flagged
and will get them to them after the release.
Thanks again,
Sijis

F14 Laughlin -- We're open for design concepts submissions
by Martin Sourada
Hi all,
so the codename for F14 has been decided -- Laughlin, so it's the right
time to let the F14 Artwork's ball rolling. I hereby announce that
suggestions, design concepts and WIP wallpapers implementing this name
are welcomed both here and on the following wiki page:
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/F14_Artwork_Theme_Concepts
Discussion is preferred here, but each submission (supposing there's
also a preview/WIP included) needs to be both uploaded to wiki and
announced on this mailing list. Please use only openly licensed works
when uploading to wiki, sources are preferred in SVG for vector based
images and XCF for raster based ones.
As for the deadline, AFAIK we have not yet the dates set, so it will be
announced later, but it will probably be some time before Alpha
(probably something between 1 and 3 weeks before Alpha freeze to give us
enough time to decide on a final concept, to put it in enough shape for
alpha and to package it).
Happy designing,
Martin

Milestones for next phase of web redesign (main page)
by Paul W. Frields
Our web redesign project has continued to move forward in a phased
approach. Before Fedora 12 release, the spins.fp.o pages were also
completely redesigned and implemented to provide spin owners a better
way to market and promote their spins. Now, before Fedora 13 release,
we're well on our way to completing the last bits of the get.fp.o
pages that were redesigned, providing a clearer way for people to
download the default image.
The next phase of the current redesign process is to revamp the front
page (the main fedoraproject.org page) to be more informative and
welcoming for a wider audience. In the Board's public meeting last
Thursday we had a conversation with the Websites team and one of the
actions I took on was to start talking with the Websites and Design
team about setting milestones for this redesign. I would hope to
complete this phase well in advance of the Alpha release of Fedora 14,
which would help us avoid crunching up too much workload into the last
phase of our release cycle, and allow everyone to concentrate on other
pieces of the release.
I want to invite members of the Design and Websites team who want to
work on this next phase to, first, look at the work that Mo Duffy has
already done for mockups, and second, think about the tasks we need to
complete to make those mockups into reality.
* Are there any widgets or supporting scripts that need to be
completed first?
* Who can we get to create the photos and other collateral to populate
the front page?
* Any tweaks we want to make to the design to address open issues?
Then we can set some dates for completion and make this part of a
regular meeting agenda. I think it makes sense to coordinate this
work on the websites@ list, so I'm setting that reply-to. Anyone
interested in helping with further refinements, and HTML, CSS, and
JavaScript work, can sign up for the websites list here:
https://lists.fedoraproject.org/mailman/listinfo/websites
I'd like to arrive at a schedule by the first Websites meeting *after*
F13 GA, which is approximately 10 days from now if I remember the
meeting schedule correctly.
