Fedora RPG Thumbnail sketches
by Máirín Duffy
Hi folks!
As I mentioned during the meeting today, I worked on some thumbnail
sketches to brainstorm ideas for the Fedora RPG UI. These are far from
complete and are a little sloppy/sketchy, but maybe they'll spark some
new and awesome ideas in your brain?
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Fedora_RPG
(You can click on the thumbs for higher-res versions)
There's also some RPG class <=> Fedora role sketches just for fun; I
think they kind of suck though. I'm not really sure if it makes sense to
come up with RPG-style character classes (mage, healer, warrior, etc.)
rather than just using a more Fedora-specific role. What do you think?

Image Annotation App - more ideas
by Máirín Duffy
Hi folks,
So Emichan and Jef have been working on this image annotation app that
Kirk and I have been using to work on the RPG mockup:
http://jefvanschendel.nl/ImageAnnotation/index.php?i=Fedora_RPG_Startpage...
(source & git repo here: http://gitorious.org/remote-image-annotation)
Out of the process of using it Kirk pointed out some ideas for moving
the app forward and I had a few ideas too, so I thought it might be
worth breaking out another new thread on the annotation app.
Here's the ideas so far:
1) Can we put an "Add Note" button at the top of the page too? (If you
have a large image like a mockup you have to scroll down then back up to
add a note and it's a bit awkward.)
Status: Jef is working on this
2) Could we also increase the default size of the box for the
annotation? Or maybe introduce resizeable edges like the gimp's, with a
larger drag target? (It's a little tough to resize and it currently is
almost always too small to leave alone.)
Status: Jef is working on this
3) It would be really nice if there was a way to etherpad-style enter in
your name and have your comments color-coded and labeled as your
comments. Right now Kirk and I have been leaving our name in parentheses
after our comments.
4) Similarly it would be nice if comment blocks had timestamps.
5) It would be fantastic if there was a button you could hit, 'export
comments' and it would give you a page that is a flat list of all
comments, maybe numbered where each annotation box is a number. You
could then use that as a checklist for working on a mockup.
6) Maybe adding the ability to title each note would make sense to help
with idea #5, then it could print out a title for each set of comments.

cross community influences without losing a brand?
by Jakub Steiner
Hi folks!
When people are done discussing existence threats and all that (kidding, kidding ;), here's a few assets that might be a good starting point to play around the idea of Lovelock Ocean Pipes[1] while getting some influence from the upstream GNOME stripes. I don't think it works all too well for the wallpaper itself as it's way too busy, but I like the texture for all the rest -- Plymouth backdrop, gdm background, posters, DVD inlays etc.
This isn't another external push to a specific direction. It's not to direct anyone anywhere. It's to inspire you guys to experiment. I'm pretty sure there's more to mine out of Lovelock. I can't identify with dismissal without actually trying it. In my view a boundary in which a designer has to be creative in is more empowering than given complete freedom. I can totally see these upstream influences incorporated into a distro with a completely different palette, like openSUSE. But that probably wouldn't be appropriate at all for me to try :)

Serving suggestions -- http://www.dropbox.com/gallery/24178/1/f15-seapipes?h=b9e52e
The main project file requires Blender 2.5, but there's also individual bits rendered in the XCF if you only want to experiment there.

Yeh, unfortunately trademark law is really rough and it's hard for a lot
of FLOSS projects to open their trademarks without also opening
themselves to abuse. :(

I think as long as you correct the logo usage issue, it shouldn't be a
problem at all. The issue that concerns me about the wallpaper as
currently design is that there is a missing bubble that is supposed to
encapsulate the Fedora logomark's f and infinity symbol. I think the
stripe effect would be okay if applied to the full logomark.
If you're up for it and can work that bubble back into the logo so it
meets the logo usage guidelines, send the design to
logo(a)fedoraproject.org for official approval.
Thanks,

Your Fedora wallpaper submission
by Máirín Duffy
Hi Ivan!
Thanks for your submission to the Fedora 15 supplemental wallpapers
project [1]!
Unfortunately, we cannot accept the submission because it includes the
Fedora trademark (the usage of which incidentally doesn't follow the
Fedora logo usage guidelines [2]). We have a rule on the page that the
supplemental wallpapers should not contain brand names or trademarks.
The Fedora logo is a trademark so it can't be distributed under a free
license - including it in a wallpaper would impact the licensing of the
entire supplemental wallpapers package. We want to make sure our
supplemental wallpapers package is unencumbered, freely-licensed, and
freely distributable which is why the rule is in place.
Anyhow, I am sorry for this bad news. I hope you can understand the
reasons for the restriction, and I hope that you'll be willing to submit
something else to our pool of wallpapers.
Thanks,
~m
