Hi everyone!
We had a Matrix meeting yesterday instead of a video meeting. Zodbot
wasn't working at the time so these are copy/paste from matrix minutes.
Here's a quick summary / table of contents:
1. Some news about using Penpot.app as a design tool (being used in
upcoming Fedora main website redesign) - message Mo with your email
address if you'd like an invite to the Fedora Design team on that app
2. The Fedora 35 Release party is coming up and the design team is

So I just got off a call that you were on too riecatnor about planning
for the new Fedora website
I think something I wanted to talk about today in light of that is this
penpot tool I dont remember if I've brought it up here before
It's an open source UI design tool, it's written by the people who make
Taiga if you know about that
I created a team on there and if you'd like an invite DM me your email
address (I also posted about it on the design-team list a while back)

one thing that is really cool about it is that it lets you do click-thru
mockups
The other thing that's cool is web devs can grab the color codes, font
names, font sizes, etc etc from the mockups directly for their css
and one more is that you can attach comments directly to spots on the
design to ask contextual questions etc
so im hoping it'll work out, i've been using it for the ChRIS project
mockups and recently some anaconda design work and so far it's worked
well
I think that is all I had to today. Basically - new website design
coming, penpot is the tool i'm using, if you wanna get involved let me
know!

Ah this one is ongoing.... so @mattdm updated the logo with these on

when you scroll down I have the logo shift to just be the artwork with
the Fedora logo inside it

yes, I like the shape/composition.. the color in the background, I can't
tell if thats supposed to be the same or different as the foreground
stroke?

on minimize it is a gradient but when its full on its the same color as
the stroke

gotcha, I think that is working well. I see we put the two bubbles in
for the favicon (?) for the navigation bar
that is a bit harder to discern the design

yeh the favicon has not been optimized at all, it literally is the raw
artwork exported at 32x32 or whatever. I need to pixel snap it and make
sure its clean
but there is a deliberateness in the general design there - matrix has a
single speech bubble
so i wanted discourse to have the two, and also, the inverse color
scheme so across browser tabs you could tell the difference
i believe in testing both in the same browser window the distinguishment
is good so i just have to get on optimizing and pixel snapping that
favicon so it reads more clearly
(and tweaking the shapes to that end if necessary)

any ideas for a graphic to go wtih it? the community blog usually
requires a graphic
when my recent f model post was syndicated it took about a weekt o get
it on the schedule, is that a reasonable timeline to throw an image

If you think you have time / want to. Definitely doesn't have to be

PSA: Removals in Fedora Design Team group membership

Hi everyone!
As a side-effect of sending the F36 wallpaper voting emails out this
morning, it turns out we have a number of members of the Fedora Design Team
"designteam" FAS group who don't appear to have active FAS accounts
anymore. There are a few others whose FAS accounts still appear to be
active, but their emails are bouncing.
I have reached out to everyone whose email addresses are bouncing to try to
get in touch to see if they'd like to stay a member of the team and if I
could help update their email address in FAS, or if they'd rather be
removed. I feel really badly removing folks without an OK, but the
following is a list of folks I couldn't get in touch with. Listing their
FAS IDs here in case they might still be subscribed to this list under
another email address and want to get in touch to keep their account
active. I am planning to remove these accounts from the Fedora Design Team
FAS group by October 31:

Hi,
Some might have noticed, I write since a while a series for Fedora Magazine on things you can do/make with Inkscape besides graphics (https://fedoramagazine.org/make-more-with-inkscape-stroke-fonts/). There is been planned an article about papercraft/pepakura but I have to delay this one a bit even its up and ready in Fedora Magazine, there must go an article before. There is an extension for creating cookie cutter with Inkscape and openSCAD. Its not a big deal, the Fedora logo was changed in just a few to such a design. Problem is the logo shows not all features of the cookie cutter. I looking for something Fedora related which would have lines not going through. I looked at Beefy Miracle but it would not work I fear as the legs are to thin. Do we have something which could be used? I looked through the badges designs to find a badger would work have not found one yet.

Fedora Wallpaper 36

Hey everyone!
Fedora 35 is getting ready to be packaged and released but it's time to
start Fedora Wallpaper 36!
Each release we increment a letter of the alphabet and look to highlight a
scientist, inventor, or engineer whose name begins with that letter and use
their work as inspiration for the visual concept of the wallpaper.
For example, F33’s inspiration was Walter Lincoln Hawkins, a polymer
chemist and the wallpaper embedded the concept of connecting the world
since his invention of plastic sheathing helped give rural access to the
telephone.
For F36, the letter is K. The first part of this process is as a team we
vote on which of a few K figures we find most inspirational / the best
possibility for cool visuals for the F36 wallpaper. I propose the list
below. I will make sure to attach the poll below for voting purposes.

*1. Jack Kilby *- Jack St. Clair Kilby was a Nobel award-winning American
electrical engineer, his greatest achievement was the creation of the first
working integrated circuit while working at Texas Instruments in the 1950s.
The visuals here could be either very direct, inspired by the diodes,
microprocessors, and transistors of the circuit, or more abstract. The
lines and squares could start to turn into an overhead view of the
city/world that’s been affected by the integrated circuit

*2. Stephanie Kwolek *– Kevlar - An American chemist discovered this
material, which is five times stronger than steel, is used in bicycle
tires, racing sails, body armor, frying pans, armored cars. She discovered
the first of a family of synthetic fibers of exceptional strength and
stiffness: poly-paraphenylene terephthalamide.
Visual concepts could include the molecular makeup of kevlar, fluidity of
fibers as well as the rigidity and strength of the material.

*3. *Deepika Kurup - is an inventor, scientist, and clean water advocate.
Kurup's initial idea that won her the Discovery Education 3M Young Scientist
<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Discovery_Education_3M_Young_Scientist_Chal...>
in 2012 is based on using a photocatalytic compound for water purification.
In 2015 she developed a pervious photocatalytic composite using sand, TiO2,
Portland cement and silver nitrate. This photocatalytic pervious composite
showed 98% reduction in total coliform bacteria immediately after
filtration. Exposure of the filtered water to sunlight with a
photocatalytic composite disc resulted in 100% inactivation of total
coliform bacteria.
I think this one has a lot of different paths we could go in! Playing
around with whether we wanted a landscape that emphasized the sun and water
like Fedora 34, or if we wanted to symbolize bacteria in a way with the
water in a gradient effect going from dirty to clean.

*4. Robert Kahn* - Robert Kahn was an electrical engineer from the Defense
Advanced Research Projects Agency. When the company DARPA ran out of
funding, he and a computer scientist from Stanford named Vint Cerf
collaborated on the principle of the interconnection of heterogeneous
computer networks. They called it the TCP (transmission control protocol)
which originally included the IP (Internet Protocol). After the U.S.
Department of Defense adopted it in 1980, the TCP/IP became the standard
Internet communication protocol we still use today.
I don't have many ideas for visuals off the top of my head but right now
while we all work with the internet mostly from home its really important
so I'm sure we could come up with something.
Keep an eye out for an email regarding the poll. We’re currently trying to
set it up with LimeSurvey but this way you can do whatever research you’d
like and figure out who to vote for in the meantime before its up and
running!

Using Pen Pot for Fedora Design artifacts

Hi everyone,
If you watch today's Fedora Design team call [1], you'll hear and see a
little discussion of a new open source UI wireframing and prototyping tool
called PenPot. It's created by the folks who make Taiga, which is a tool
we've used in Fedora before. It is a hosted, browser-based app that runs
great in Fedora, and you can check it out here:

I am trying out this tool to wireframe the redesign for the main Fedora
website and create formal brand guidelines for the new Fedora logo. I set
up a Fedora Design team on the main server at penpot.app. If you would like
to join this team, let me know :)
Note this tool isn't meant to replace our usage of Inkscape, especially for
illustrations, logo designs, print layouts, etc. But it is a very
well-designed tool for UI mockups so I personally will be testing it out
more for Fedora UI mockups.

Mo also talked through some super-early mockups of a new Fedora website
design.
Ryan Gorley also dropped by and Mo gave him a tour of the new Pen Pot app
(penpot.app) which is an open source wireframing tool that seems pretty
nice :)
