This is a potential version I worked on.  The bg may be too busy, and or white in the center. http://imgur.com/a/8TSkn.  I will work on it when I get back to my dorm.  The fog is separate from the spectrum, and can be adjusted independently.  I feel that the original colours to the BG were better, but "blend mode -> color (or 'hue')" is a raster layer setting.  I'm assuming keeping it in inkscape for scale-ability is a must.

Any feedback on my design.  It isn't very minimalist, but it did match the theme.  I think it looks more like what would be used as a supplemental though

Ah I thought you were still working on another version so was waiting for you to send a link to that. The version I saw is here:

I like the color palette; I really love the sci-fi style of the trees. Definitely goes with the technology theme. I'm not sure the white waveform running in front of the trees works - it seems kind of noisy and hard to parse - but where it's just on top of the water and horizon it gives a kind of neat glow effect, and I wonder if that might look neat behind the trees instead.

I think the trees are probably a bit too regular and you're going to want a bit more diversity between them so they don't look like clones.

I think the scene is maybe a bit bare and might do with some more elements to the texture of the sky and water. The clouds in the inspiration photo are an example of an environmental element that might work.

Hope this helps! Thanks for the mockup, it's neat!
