A PPA? Blasphemy...... ;)
I just build it from git, they seem to have fixed the problem I had. Runs pretty well as far as I can tell right now... :)

Alright, I managed to get the nightly ppa installed and it's working
beautifully. Just like the last time I tried GNOME Shell, I was
impressed by many improvements they've made. I feel a little less
unsure about GNOME's future now.
