I think these are good ideas, Oku! I like the symbolic icon in the time
one, and the map is a nice affordance in the country / language
selection. However! Country borders can be politically-charged and since
they change over time it might be pretty difficult to maintain. Maybe we
could do them at a continent or at least larger-than-country expanse of
area though. For example:

We handled it at a very granular geographic area for that site to avoid
any political upset and it hasn't seemed to cause any issues.
RE: the keyboard image... yep, it works like that today. It updates the
labels on the keys and the layout to reflect what you chose. You can
give it a whirl:
System > Preferences > Keyboard
then hit the 'Add' button on the layouts tab. It's not
easily-discoverable, but the keys even light up when you press them (you
have to click on the image first though.)
