Hi all,
F15 hasn't been finished yet (when the heck are we supposed to select the supplemental wallpapers, we're way past the deadline...) and name for F16 has been announced already which means that our work on new artwork starts as well. I prepared the wiki pages as usual. All of them can be accessed via F16_Artwork category [1].
I also went ahead and submitted first wallpaper concept -- steampunk/gears [2]. Yes, the time hath come when this concept shall be revived and we hone it to perfectness. As I outlined in the submission page [3], Verne and steampunk just cannot be separated ;-) Also, I don't recall from the top of my head all who worked on that concept but Mo and Nicu so if you were working on it go ahead and add your name there.
Cheers, Martin

I will try and submit a space-based theme as soon as possible. I already had several people on identi.ca point out that a return to a space-based concept would be most welcome. Also thinking about a marine one since I love submarines (think SeaQuest DSV :D) and that would go very well with Verne. How about a steampunk/space or steampunk/marine mix? :)
Really glad, Verne won. It was my #1 choice and is a terrific concept to base artwork on, TBH. :)

It may seem an easy task, but in my opinion it is not. It is one of the most successful name for a linux distribution. I read Verne's books as a child ... nearly all of them. Defining words for these books are "adventurous" or "adventure". Jules Verne's books with illustrations by Édouard Alphonse de Neuville and Riou are an example of their complexity. ( see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C3%89douard_Riou) As James Lovelock, I have not studied the theories, but reading the wiki I realized that he wrote "Gaia theory" is named after the goddess Gaia (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gaia_(mythology)) I could tell that he was an adventurer in science.
We should start with some sketches, some symbols that reflect the distribution name.

I also think we shouldn't overthink the whole thing. The goal here is to produce good looking artwork, not overburden it with too many concepts and clever ideas, isn't it? For example, I've yet to find one person who gets what the clockwork bird for F15 is about, I think it's too abstract a connection.

TBA means To Be Announced ;-) The artwork schedule will be based on general F16 schedule which, AFAIK, isn't available yet. Yep, it feels a bit weird to have time of day precise while date left blank (plus, now rereading the sentence I see it actually has a second hidden meaning, lol):-D
