I might be to pedantic, but I think [2] is not Forbidden City (the numer of arch), nor Tiananmen (the board). Also I think it might lead to confusion. Personally I prefer the one with Temple of Heaven.
Hmmm...I think its like a mix of Tiananmen and Forbidden city. Observe the arches. Of course to me, the architecture of Tiananmen, Forbidden city gate and Meridian Gate looks quite similar to me. But I have never been there to know how it really is. We can make some modifications and you suggest.

Oh I just realize, a glimpse of Tiananmen and Forbidden City almost same If without the stairs. How about this [1], I'm using Tiananmen.

Actually I like Prima's Temple of Heaven design, as I've seen it as a symbol on many stuffs. Tiananmen design may be pedantic(yeah think about some "special" political factors), it would make my face grow solemn when I see it.
Foreigners, you can take a look at the Beijing government English online:
How to stress the symbolic importance of the picture is important, I hope you can grab some ones you like and tell us, then we can start a vote of the submissions to choose the final by the public.
Thanks.

Noob here.
Some sources for ideas/inspiration, based on my liking :
Architecture (modern) : 1. Bird's nest 2. CCTV tower 3. Water Cube (aquatic center)
Architecture (old) 1. Great Wall 2. Temple of Heaven 3. Meridian gate - Forbidden city
Other Symbols 1. Terracotta Army (though in Xi'an its an important symbol of Chinese history, I think) - my personal fav too. 2. The circular symbols [1] 3. The animals for each year - its a cheval this time, I think. [2] 4. Intricate pottery patterns 5. Symbols from scripts (such as kai [3] for 'open')
Maybe we can pick a few to form a base for designs or randomly do design drafts and then vote. You can also add more ideas or +1 some of these.

Hey all,
I've been working on Ticket 312 at https://fedorahosted.org/design-team/ticket/312. Basically, I'm to design an icon for the "Package review" section of Fedora's package database system. I'm familiar with the basic fundamentals of icon design but have been having some difficulties tailoring my work to match the theme of the other icons (for examples, see the icons next to "Builds status" "Updates status" "Package source" and "Bugs reports" at http://209.132.184.188/package/guake/).
Specifically, what should the height and length, in pixels, be of the icon I submit (roughly speaking)? I know it's a dumb sounding question but I'm an amateur and still have lots to learn. Thanks for bearing with me and for any help you can provide.
Thanks, Adam Saunders

The icons next to Package review, etc. look like they're following the Tango icon theme guidelines [1]. They're 16×16.

Hi Suchakra,
Can the font used for the word "Beijing" be replaced per guideline? I think it might be good to be written in calligraphic style, similar with the one in 2008 Summer Olympics logo [1].

I have a few observations :
1. The guidelines for FUDCon logo are at [1]. Even though I personally like Prima's calligraphic style more, I would still vouch for the style in the guidelines for the sake for uniformity. We are already violating clear-space guidelines for the logo (but it seems to have become the norm now since past FUDCons - Pune, Cusco etc but this change looks good, I think)
2. I give a +1 for Temple of Heaven logo. However, the logo vector has to be improved (something like current Forbidden city gate logo style). My previous experience of having a print of such vectorized logo has not really been that great.

Hi guys, seems like we need more efforts to get the final logo with city symbols. In the meantime, I want to use a logo in visa invitation letter and others. Can you provide me a logo without city symbols (the full version per the guideline wiki page) at the moment for the current use? It should be quick and easy.
Regards,

Ok, so I am no expert but I managed to make another version of Temple of Heaven FUDCon logo at [1] and [2]. The temple design is done from scratch. If someone wants to use the temple vector later on, get it from [3].
If I get a few +1s on this one, then maybe we can proceed with other designs :)

Thanks, but the word "Beijing" seems a bit too small. Besides, can you make the png transparent?
Regards,
How about this [1], I re-size the word "Beijing" and also transparent as a previous.

Great, thanks! About transparent, sorry that Firefox misled me to believe it was not :/

The architecture seems similar to me, even though I have been there several times. I need to check the photo and compare to tell the exact differences. I think this situation might cause confusions. Besides Tiananmen is still of political meanings today (The national emblem is there, and many activities are on national day.), which I want to avoid in the logo. In additional, the word Forbidden does not rhyme with Fedora.
On the other hand, I think Temple of Heaven is quite suitable for logo design. It can stand out as a symbol of Beijing, China. It no longer has political meaning. And it was in fact in the logo of ICANN 46 [1].
