Hi,
Fedora 30 got just released as my birthday gift, so I got this year two nice presents from my Fedora friends. But now we should start working on Fedora 31 and that means finding a name for the theming.
As the releases before I prepared a formular with names of inventors and discoverers, this time starting with G. You can find the form here:
https://forms.gle/AHVJpKrJ51xXKuos7
You might notice, there is a change it requires the upload of a picture. I think that we got so much bad critique for the F30 wallpaper is a bit my fault as I fixed the minds of a lot of the team to an visual idea which did not work out to much. So lets try it this time this way.
I will also this time open the voting for people who are not part of the Design Team. We got constructive critics from some of the Fedora folks, they care about the look of our distro and that is a good thing. I want to give them a chance to help us from the begin on, lets see how it works.
I will not anounce this on other lists, its just a test how this process works for us. If it works we can go further then.

To summarize the point, here is the bug report were users felt a nausea https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1702174
For that lesson we can improve the process of making future wallpapers as some users have visual health issues.

I am having a hard time responding to this request via the link. The Google form is restrictive. It expects contributors to use a Google account. I think one can configure google forms to expect inputs from outside "Google-verse".

yes, it expects a google login. We did discuss this already on the list a while ago, I am also not a friend of this but for a test and that is what it is, its not justified to hack a platform for it yet.
If it works out for us, there will be one but this is a test.

Thank you Gnokii for working on this. I appreciate it!
If it's not too late, a couple of other "G" possibilities from computer science history:
* https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adele_Goldberg_(computer_scientist) -- one of the developers of Smalltalk and an inventer of some object-oriented programming concepts. Wrote an influential paper predicting personal notebook computers.
* https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adele_Goldstine -- mathematician and computer programmer; wrote the manual for ENIAC.
Also, I'd like to repeat how much I loved the bright and cheery blue from the F26 wallpaper. We've had some other great wallpapers since then but they've tended towards more dark, somber, and purple. Can we make this one shift back to bright?
It's always good to hear F26 wallpaper love. The Wikipedia page on Goldstine has the following line: "Goldstine also trained some of the six women who were the original programmers of ENIAC to manually calculate ballistic trajectories (complex differential calculations)."
The idea of 1, training 6, calculating ballistic trajectories already creates images in my mind.
Sorry for the late response, I have a lot of work novadays. A lot of it is Fedora related. Everything here takes much more time as in Europe or US.
damn, I wished I would have found these earlier. I would like to replace Eveline Gottzein with Adele Goldberg but unfortunately we already have a vote on this one. Add one more makes it only harder to get a clear result. How did you find these? I really have trouble all time finding woman inventors/discoverer and when they invented something like tipex.
I already have done the ones for F32, I did find a better one there but I can share the one with you, if you want to work on this to.
But for now I would find it more cooler to get a statement what council thinks to make this process more open again and if we had this small amount of ressources to do a small platform for it.
For the blue, thats just a personal preferation we got a lot positive feedback for the F26 one but the feedback for F29 we got even more positive feedback. In which direction it goes with the color tone is hardly to predict. We could do an experiment and redo the F29 in brighter blue colors, I am sure you would not like it then anymore compared to the actual one.

Hi,
Just to make that sure everybody understands this here. Dont send your liking to this list nor your sketches or visual ideas to the list. That would maybe influence the others and fix their minds.
You mind wonder I writing this, one did write me what she finds good and promised to do something. And somebody else wrote to the list, but he is on moderation, so it did not end up on the list.

Hi,
Just a reminder, its open now sine 8th of May. I will keep it open until 1st of June, then I will give you the result. So everyone who hasnt voted yet should go for it.

Hi,
just a last minute reminder, I will go tomorrow morning into the province, its planned I come back in the evening. I will close then the voting.

Hi,
Ok, its time to give you the result, I think the outcome was a bit expected. The winner is:
Galileo Galilei
we had not many votes this time, I think the google login is for many the issue, but there is right now no other way to do it.
If somebody wants to have a look at the submitted pictures/ideas send me a mail I add you to the folder you can look then. I cant submit them here as we would publish then copyrighted material via hyperkitty.

Cool! Telescopes, lenses, of course the Galilean moons. Phases of Venus if we want to be more obscure.
Hi,
Well, Galileo and telescope is a bit hard. He did not invent it, he improved it and was the first using it for sky observation.
What would be more important is his contributions to the proof and acceptance of the Kopernikan system.
If you make a picture search for Galileo you will definitely find this: https://www.deviantart.com/opparudy/art/Galileo-Galilei-WPAP-502478129
Its a technique called WPAP there is an tutorial of the inventor of this method on tutsplus https://design.tutsplus.com/tutorials/how-to-create-a-geometric-wpap-vector-...
sure it describes AI but there is on youtube a tutorial for inkscape https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xCcuz_B27cY I found another one (but did not bookmark it) using trace color quantization which seems much faster.
we could use this technique. For the background we could use pages from his book Dialogo which can be easily found with a picture search
