How about turning this into a bounty item?
I thought this too.
Since I'd already started drawing up the basic framework, I've turned it into a template, including some useful resources on a separate layer. (Only visible in Inkscape because they're outside the page border.)

The inside and outside are also separated by layer so the same file can be used for both if the other side's layer is hidden?the image is horizontally centred and symmetrical to allow the two sides to line up.
Having looked at the design linked to in Ankur's blog, I think it might be a good idea to have a page of stickers for the Customs info as well, that can be stuck on international mail-outs, so it doesn't have to appear in the envelope design itself.

I took interest in this task being a member of the Free-media as well. So, I accepted the ticket. Looks much similar to a design I did before ... which was of no consequence (seemed unnecessary and overambitious at the time) See: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/File:Fedora-DIY-Sleeve.svgz#file https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/File:Fedora-DIY_Sleeve_Cased.A.svgz#file
Strangely, Joe's design bears a .otg extension ... which software reads that? Would be nice to see what was done earlier as I am curious as to why Free-media wants a redesign.
In any case, I've stepped up for this one.

.OTG fles are templates for Open Document graphics, you open them in OpenOffice.org Draw.

Hi,
Since I filed the ticket, I will answer this.
My original message to the design team is here http://lists.fedoraproject.org/pipermail/design-team/2010-September/003337.h...
We'd like to "officially" announce this as the free media mailer once the design team has finished tweaking it.

If your CD sleeves are anything to go by, I'm sure your envelope design will be great. I look forward to seeing it.
